We process ferrous and non-ferrous materials with a focus on getting the job done right, keeping our yard organized, and delivering top value to our customers. Position Overview The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery to move, sort, and process scrap metal safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on role in an outdoor industrial environment where attention to safety, precision, and productivity is critical. Key Responsibilities Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, and material handlers Sort and process scrap materials (ferrous and non-ferrous) Load and unload trucks, trailers, and containers safely and efficiently Feed processing equipment such as shears, balers, and shredders Maintain clean and organized work areas within the yard Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance Identify and report mechanical issues or safety concerns Follow all company safety policies and procedures Assist with general yard duties as needed Qualifications 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction, recycling, or industrial settings Strong understanding of equipment safety and operation Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented Strong awareness of surroundings and attention to detail Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Preferred Experience Scrap metal or recycling yard experience Experience operating grapples, magnets, or shears Knowledge of ferrous vs. non-ferrous materials Basic mechanical skills for equipment upkeep Pass pre-employment screening, health assessment and drug screen What We Offer Competitive hourly pay based on experience Health Insurance Overtime opportunities Stable, year-round work Opportunities for advancement Strong team environment Why Join Richmond Recycling Inc.?
