The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for performing engineering process development and testing activities to support manufacturing of gas centrifuges to support the enrichment of UF6. The ideal candidate will have experience following engineering processes and procedures and will be knowledgeable in subject areas such as rotordynamics, dynamic testing, signal processing, and software development. What You'll Do: Empirical and simulated rotordynamics leveraging existing tools and development of new techniques and engineering software Software development: data acquisition, digital signal processing, and analysis of high-speed signals Dynamic testing including experimental modal analysis (EMA) Test design and automation Model verification and validation Participate in reviews of technical designs and papers as either the primary engineer or a panel member. Accomplishing complex engineering assignments in your specialty. Makes independent decisions on engineering problems and methods. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who specializes in designing and optimizing piping and mechanical systems within process-control environments that handle liquids or gases. This role demands extensive experience in fluid dynamics, equipment specification, and structural analysis. The successful candidate will lead innovation in system design with minimal supervision, ensuring projects meet operational, regulatory, and safety targets from conception through final realization. Key Responsibilities Lead the design, construction, and maintenance of facility piping systems, including rigorous component sizing and equipment selection (pumps, motors, heaters, blowers, valves, etc.). Model pressure, flow, and thermal effects (steady‐state and transient) using CFD, FEA, and related tools; validate piping integrity under static and dynamic loads, and perform pipe-stress/structural analyses. Develop, review, and red-line mechanical and piping drawings, plans, and specifications derived from engineering calculations; ensure compliance with codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for major projects or for entire projects of moderate scope; prepare ROMs and detailed cost estimates, compile equipment specifications, and generate procurement documentation. Participate in safety reviews, quality-assurance activities, training sessions, and regulatory audits; drive continuous improvement by integrating emerging technologies and best practices. Produce technical reports, literature reviews, and progress updates; present findings and status briefings to stakeholders and senior management. Direct the work of technical support staff and mentor junior engineers in mechanical and fluid-system design; guide troubleshooting and modifications to resolve equipment malfunctions. Perform additional related tasks as assigned. Requirements Five to twelve (5 – 12) years of mechanical design-engineering experience with a strong focus on piping and fluid systems (industrial liquid or gas processes). Demonstrated expertise in pressure-drop calculations, fluid-flow optimization, and equipment sizing/selection. Proficiency in static and dynamic piping analyses, including pipe-stress and support-structure calculations. Prior experience in highly regulated or process-driven industries (nuclear, chemical processing, oil & gas, HVAC, etc.). Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASME or equivalent) and proven ability to integrate them into efficient designs. Strong in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science. Proven history of analytical, problem-solving, and project-management skills; effective oral and written communication; collaborative mindset when working with cross-functional teams. Education & Certification Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) from an accredited institution – or equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and/or certifications in project management or quality are advantageous but not required. Additional Requirements Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance. Reliability Engineer (RE) provides a strategic support interface between Production, Engineering, Projects, and the Maintenance Organizations by providing recommendations and technical expertise to enhance equipment design, reliability, and maintainability. The RE has a critical role in optimizing asset management processes through utilization of proactive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime, failure rates and maximize equipment reliability. The RE is responsible for but not limited to: • Defines and provides implementation support for recommendations that ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls and safety/security systems • Provides reliability based technical support to Production, Operations, Infrastructure Management and Craft personnel • Gathers, reviews, and analyzes data concerning facility or equipment reliability, availability, maintainability, and inspectability (RAMI) specifications • Review technical documents that depict or define reliability, accessibility, maintainability or inspectability features of systems, equipment and facilities including, technical basis documentation, manuals and data-sheets • Lead role in integration of project and plant RAMI deliverables • Development of proactive maintenance strategies for structures, systems and components • Equipment Failure Mode Identification and Root Cause Failure Analysis • Trend Analysis of structures, systems, and components • Defines, develops, implements, revises, and monitors Asset Management Plan(s) for structures, systems and components • Effective deployment of condition based, predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems before failure occurrence • Completion and presentation of both RAMI and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) analyses to internal and external engineering partners. Analysis to include labor distributions, critical spares identification, proactive asset management plans, failure rates MTBF, MTTR and life-cycle cost analysis. Requirements Minimum Job Requirements • Active DOE Q Clearance • Bachelor's degree in engineering/physical science discipline from an ABET accredited program. • The applicant must meet the requirements of the DOE O 426.2 which states a Baccalaureate in Engineering/Related Science, 2 years of job related experience and 1 year of nuclear experience or a DOE approved alternative is needed for this position. DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2). Must be available on nights, weekends and holidays for up to 29 hours a week. (Hours will vary weekly) Work hours include M-F 4pm-10:30pm and weekends a variety of shifts from 7am-10:30pm.
