Summary: This is a skilled and highly technical inspection role involving planning, plan checking, and field inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and laws. Highlights: 1. Ensures safe, structurally sound, and sanitary building construction Minimum Preparation for Work: Graduation from high school or equivalent; and Two (2) years of experience as a Code Inspector I or equivalent; and Holds a minimum of one standard license as an inspector and/or plans examiner in addition to the discipline for which he/she was hired, and Demonstrates 5 years’ combined experience in the field of construction or a related field, building code inspection corresponding to the certification category sought; or Demonstrates a combination of postsecondary education in the field of construction or a related field and experience which totals 4 years, with at least 1 year of such total being experience in construction or building code inspections; or Demonstrates a combination of technical education in the field of construction or a related field and experience which totals 4 years, with at least 1 year of such total being experience in construction or building code plan inspections. Pertinent work and education shall be defined as follows: For the building discipline, pertinent work shall be in building construction work. In addition to building construction experience, it is preferred to have at minimum five (5) years of experience in residential construction supervising all trades. Pertinent education shall be in structural engineering, architecture, or related field. Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks. Possess and maintain an active Standard Inspector license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation in the respective discipline. Possession of an active Standard Plans Examiner license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation in the respective discipline is preferred, and may be required for some positions. Nature of Work: This is skilled and highly technical inspection work. An employee in this class works closely with professionals in the building industry, as well as the general public to insure safe, structurally sound, and sanitary building construction. Work involves planning, plan checking, and field inspections to require compliance with municipally adopted codes and laws, as well as laws mandated by County, State, and Federal governments. Examples of Work: Checks plans and specifications for proposed construction of all building and building improvements within the City. Makes field inspections to insure compliance with building code and that plans and other laws are followed. Participates in the process for the demolition of buildings and structures in the City. Enforces numerous City, County and Federal laws. Inspects existing buildings for safety and compliance with other laws. Secures evidence of violations, and when necessary, assists in the prosecution of these cases. Advises and consults with professional designers, builders, plumbers, and the general public in regard to approved design methods, materials, and laws. Performs field inspections to examine and evaluate the building structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work performed, and materials used; verifies quality of workmanship, quality of materials used, and compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable codes and regulations. Identifies, documents, and communicates deficiencies and deviations from plans; refers serious problems and disagreements in interpretation to supervisor. Interprets building, mechanical, plumbing, and safety codes; and issues pass/fail notices. Meets with contractors and or homeowners to discuss project issues and concerns. Monitors projects for compliance with code requirements and approved construction plans and materials; maintains communications with builders (Commercial/ Residential) and or homeowners on residential inspection projects. Maintains and updates inspection records, project documentation, and project files. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of building construction and maintenance, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing installations. Knowledge of City building codes or City, State, and Federal codes and laws, as well as accepted safety standards. Knowledge of standard tools, materials, and practices. Ability to interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints. Ability to enforce regulations with firmness and tact; ability to work with and for the general public. Ability to keep operating records and make reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition. Skill in the use of standard equipment and testing devices of the building trade and in locating and correcting defects in building facilities. We are seeking Spanish linguists for upcoming opportunities in Key West, Florida. Linguists will provide foreign language interpretation and translation/transcription services to support user Counter-Intelligence/Human Intelligence (CI/HUMINT), Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) requirements and other high priority tasks supporting real world operations pursuant to the mission. Linguists shall cull out actionable data to facilitate successful execution of the mission. The objective is to provide accurate, complete, and trusted interpretation and translation of data from a variety of sources. In support of these missions, contractor linguists shall cover a wide range of styles and subjects. Typical examples would include contracts and laws; treaties and international agreements on technical, scientific, military, economic, and cultural subjects; training manuals; court documents; political speeches and position papers; slide presentations; and official correspondence between government leaders. Other work assigned to contractors includes on-site support for meetings or conferences, summarizing documents, reviewing translations, and ascertaining the substantive conformity of texts written in two or more languages (comparisons). Simultaneous Interpretation Services: Simultaneous interpreting requires the interpreter to convey continuously the full and accurate meaning of what is said in the source language into speech in the target language, lagging just slightly behind the original message. Simultaneous interpretation may take place in settings where no pauses or interruptions are possible and is typically delivered using specialized equipment in a sound-proof booth. Consecutive Interpretation Services: Consecutive interpretation requires the interpreter to convey the full and accurate meaning of speech from the source language into the target language after the speaker has concluded speaking. Depending on the setting, the speaker may pause periodically to allow for interpreting to take place or continue until the entire speech has been delivered. Interpreters generally take notes as memory aids to reconstruct the message and seek clarification if the request will not disrupt the event.
