Summary: Downtown Guides act as ambassadors, providing a welcoming presence, security, and assistance to visitors, residents, and businesses in the downtown core. Highlights: 1. Interact with stakeholders and assist the public Two positions available July 1 - September 30 33 hours per week, Thursday - Sunday (afternoons and evenings) *DPSST certification is ideal, but not required Competitive wages Position Description The Downtown Guides, also known as the Red Hats, serve as ambassadors for the downtown core. They provide a welcoming presence to visitors, residents and employees, while also adding a layer of security, primarily for property owners and businesses. The area these positions will serve will be 12 square blocks. Downtown Guides must possess good verbal skills, and lead with excellent customer service. They must be able to work in various weather conditions which may include high temperatures and rain, and walk for extended periods of time. Guides frequently interact with downtown stakeholders. It is paramount that they are able to quickly respond to various needs and situations, and use careful judgement. Our organization prides itself on the professional manner in which its Guides conduct themselves, and that includes interactions and relationships with other agencies, whose partnership is greatly valued. Duties include: -Interacting with businesses and property owners -Serving as a safe, visual presence downtown -Assisting the public with general information and directions -Escorting employees or visitors to cars or other destinations within the district -Responding to calls and initiating responses related to trespassing -Exchanging information with partner agencies -Using careful judgement to deescalate and bring calm to situations that may arise -Documenting interactions for reporting purposes, including response times -Observing and logging calls for service from the Downtown Watch Clean Team -Graffiti removal, from ground level only, approximately one day per month -Distributing information to businesses, often in partnership with the City of Eugene or the Downtown Eugene Merchants -Assisting first responders as needed - often traffic diversion If this feels like a good fit, please submit your resume and a brief note about your interest.
