Overview:
Lead Physicist, FT, Piedmont Columbus John B. Amos Cancer Center
Provides physics services reled to the planning and delivery of therapeutic radiion trement in
accordance with the Radiion Oncologist's prescription. Provides technical leadership including clinical
set-up expertise to radiion oncologists, dosimetrists and therapists. Performs quality assurance checks
according to regulory requirements and industry standards for all department equipment. Serves as a
mentor and team lead for staff medical physicists. Reports to the Manager for Radiion Physics.
Responsibilities:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Masters of Science in Medical Physics, or reled discipline.
Qualificions:
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Five years of clinical experience as a medical physicist in a radiion therapy department.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiion Physics
Ability to be listed as an authorized user on the Ste of Georgia Radioactive Merial Licenses
Participion in the American Board of Radiology Maintenance of Certificion Program
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Works collaborively with radiion oncologists, medical dosimetrists, and radiion therapists to
provide technical expertise for trement programs in radiion oncology including, but not limited
to, external beam, brachytherapy, radiosurgery, and radiopharmaceutical programs.
2. Performs quality assurance checks based on industry standards on all equipment including, but
not limited to, linear accelerors; CT scanners; trement planning systems; and brachytherapy
sources and equipment per AAPM recommendions and regulory requirements.
3. Maintains documention of all commissioning, acceptance, and quality assurance activities and
provides these documents for review.
4. Maintains a high level of expertise in the use of the trement planning and trement delivery
hardware and software and performs routine quality assurance checks and peer reviews of
trement plan quality.
5. Performs physics chart checks during the course of care for pients under trement; makes
recommendions for policy and procedure updes; provides oversight for the technical aspects
of the trement delivery process.
6. Provides staff in-services; radiion safety educion; participes in the instruction of medical
physics residents, dosimetry students, and radiion therapy students roting through the clinic.
7. Participes as an active member of medical physics and radiion oncology initiives; tends
scheduled staff meetings; contributes positively to the growth of programs and services.
