(2) Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC), Department of Defense (DoD) High Performance Computing Modernization Program’s “Maui High Performance Computing Center” (MHPCC), located at the Maui Research and Technology Park (MRTP) in Maui, Hawai‘i. This position will conduct research under the University of Hawai‘i Maui Support for Technical and Research Services (MSTARS) contract. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $12,500 - $15,900/Mon. DUTIES: Provides senior level systems programming and management functions for a large scale, high performance computing (HPC) complex at the MHPCC. Installs, integrates, and manages HPC configurations, as well as other UNIX based systems and peripherals. Independently accomplishes complex system integration projects, advanced system performance analyses, problem resolution, and system security initiatives. Develops system management strategies, architectural assessments, system tools, and other software for the administration of production systems. Provides technical oversight and consultation for MHPCC staff and users in the use of the HPC facilities. Works closely with other MHPCC departmental entities to provide a comprehensive support infrastructure for a wide range of DoD and other Government customers. PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in a related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline. EXPERIENCE Five to seven (5-7) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of HPC systems, UNIX workstation and server implementations, computer graphics hardware and software, and scalable, parallel architectures. Knowledge of industry trends and evolving technology. ABILITIES & SKILLS Must be a U.S. Citizen, a requirement of the Government security investigation to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Ability to independently oversee and direct a team of technology professionals working in a dynamic HPC environment. Ability to build servers. Ability to contribute to the development of technical design decisions involving software or hardware implementation strategies. Ability to install and configure operating systems and application software. Ability to monitor system usage and performance statistics and to understand the impacts of operating system tuning parameters. Ability to understand and follow established methods and procedures for the installation of system modifications. Ability to develop and debug software tools using C, C++, and one (1) or more scripting languages (e.g., C shell (csh), AWK, Perl). Ability to analyze requirements and determine computational resource impacts. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on a tier-3 background investigation to access classified information. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS Ability to lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds unassisted. Must be able to work in temperatures between 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with large LINUX clusters with high speed interconnects, parallel file systems, Domain Name System (DNS), Network Information Service (NIS), SendMail, Network File System (NFS), cloud based services, DoD Information Assurance, and RedHat.
