Job Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall operation of various ready-mix plants. Along with profit and loss responsibility, main duties will include production oversight, operational improvements, and employee leadership with strong emphasis on safety and environmental compliance. This position works closely with other departments in the region/division, i.e., Sales, Finance, Environmental, Safety, Quality Control and Human Resources.

Compensation
$140k-$185k DOE
Responsibilities
Oversees all ready-mix operations, including plant and equipment maintenance
Manages all ready-mix personnel, including Plant Managers, RM Drivers, Cement Train Drivers, Plant personnel, Mail Runner and Operations Support Specialist
Safety and development of all personnel, including training, certifications, wage reviews, staffing and performance evaluations
Responsible for controlling labor costs and maintaining appropriate staff levels within assigned area
Profit and Loss responsibility: establishing and achieving production targets and operating results
Ensuring all materials meet quality control requirements and ability to maintain production levels including cement, aggregates, and admixtures
Productivity reporting and analysis revolving budgets, cost reduction, and Capex Projects
Environmental, OSHA, MSHA, DOT and other regulatory compliance
Operations and capital equipment budgeting
Provide leadership to department managers regarding short and long-term goal-setting and execution
Close collaboration with peers in areas of goal-setting, sales, customer service, and staff development
Direct, coach, and develop employees to ensure company policy compliance
Oversee the process for new or temporary ready-mix establishments
Education
BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Mining or Civil Engineering or equivalent in experience
Any relevant operations management certifications, i.e. industry-specific management training
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum 5 years’ experience running a large ready-mix operation, including ancillary functions such as central dispatch, shop maintenance, yard production and product delivery
Experience managing a large fleet of ready-mix trucks and plant equipment dispersed across a broad geography
Experience operating in both a Union and Non-Union environment, especially teamster and operators
Experience with OSHA regulations and requirements
Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and requirements
Experience managing a large group of employees across a broad geography, in separate locations
Experience developing training programs for drivers including driving technique, truck maintenance, product delivery, ticketing, payments and customer service
Personnel management experience, i.e., hiring and selection, performance reviews, wage issues, discipline, and legal compliance requirements
Work experience with SAP or equivalent ERP system
Knowledge of office systems, including proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office software packages
Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills
Strong oral and written communications skills
Customer service orientation
Preferred:
Experience in a vertically integrated construction materials organization preferred
Member of relevant professional organizations
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
