Description

Summary: Seeking a dependable part-time equipment operator to clear brush, blackberries, and overgrown vegetation using a Bobcat E40 mini excavator. Highlights: 1. Opportunity to work directly with a growing small business owner 2. Gain experience with excavation and forestry-mulching equipment 3. Potential for a larger role as the business expands We are a growing, owner-operated land-clearing business based in Tigard, Oregon. We specialize in brush clearing, blackberry removal, forestry mulching, and property restoration throughout Washington County and the surrounding Portland metro area. As the business continues to grow, I’m looking for a dependable part-time equipment operator to help take on additional projects. This is an opportunity to work directly with the owner of a growing small business, gain experience with excavation and forestry-mulching equipment, and potentially grow into a larger role as the business expands. About the position This position will primarily involve operating a Bobcat E40 mini excavator equipped with a hydraulic forestry mulcher to clear brush, blackberries, small trees, and overgrown vegetation on residential and rural properties. This is a flexible, part-time position with no guaranteed weekly hours. Work will depend on customer demand, weather, and project schedules. Some weeks may offer multiple days of work, while others may offer fewer opportunities. I’m looking for someone who has flexibility in their schedule and is interested in building a working relationship with the business over time. Initially, the position will focus almost entirely on equipment operation. The owner will handle equipment transportation, loading and unloading, routine maintenance, jobsite setup, and customer communication. Your primary responsibility will be operating the equipment safely and efficiently at the jobsite. Compensation and growth opportunities * Starting pay: $25/hour * Pay increases to $30/hour after successfully completing the first 60 days * Flexible part-time work, initially averaging around 2–3 weekdays per week when work is available * Opportunity to develop skills in excavation, forestry mulching, and land clearing * Potential for additional hours and a larger role as the business grows This position may be a particularly good fit for someone who has another source of income, is early in their equipment-operating career, or wants to gain experience while exploring a longer-term career in the industry. While there is no guaranteed path to full-time employment, my goal is to find someone who can grow with the business as demand increases. Experience and qualifications Professional forestry-mulching experience is not required. I’m interested in finding someone with a good foundation in equipment operation and the right attitude to learn. Relevant experience could include: * Operating excavators, skid steers, tractors, loaders, or other heavy equipment * Working on a farm, ranch, construction site, excavation crew, or landscaping operation * Working with hydraulic equipment or machinery * Performing basic mechanical troubleshooting and identifying equipment problems The most important qualities are reliability, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to operating equipment safely. You should be comfortable working independently, following jobsite instructions, and communicating promptly if a problem arises. Requirements * Valid driver’s license * Reliable transportation to jobsites * Availability for occasional weekday work, with flexibility to accept work when projects are scheduled * Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions * Willingness to learn and follow equipment-specific safety procedures Approximately 95% of our work is in Washington County, Oregon, so candidates living in or near Tigard, Beaverton, Hillsboro, and surrounding communities may find this especially convenient. How to apply Please respond with answers to the following questions: 1. What is your experience operating heavy equipment? Please describe the machines you’ve operated and how you’ve used them. 2. What is your current work or school situation, and what interests you about a flexible, part-time position? 3. Are you available for occasional weekday work, with no guaranteed number of hours each week? 4. Do you have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to jobsites? 5. Are you comfortable with the starting pay of $25/hour, increasing to $30/hour after successfully completing the first 60 days? Please include your name, general location, and a good way to contact you. I’m looking for someone interested in building a long-term working relationship with a growing small business. I look forward to meeting potential candidates.
