Summary: ECCN Inc. is seeking a dependable and motivated Low Voltage / Security Systems Technician to install, configure, and troubleshoot diverse electronic security and building technology systems. We are looking for a dependable and motivated Low Voltage / Security Systems Technician to join our field team. This is not a position where you will perform the same type of installation every day. ECCN works across multiple technologies, including access control, video surveillance, structured cabling, fiber optics, networking, intercoms, intrusion systems, commercial doors and hardware, automatic door operators, vehicle gates, parking access systems, and other integrated security and building technologies. We are looking for someone with a solid technical foundation who wants to continue learning, take on greater responsibility, and grow into a Lead Technician, Systems Specialist, or other advanced technical role within the company. THE JOB Responsibilities may include: Install, terminate, test, label, and troubleshoot Cat5e, Cat6, coax, and fiber-optic cabling Install, configure, and troubleshoot IP cameras, NVRs, VMS platforms, and surveillance systems Install and service access control systems, including card readers, controllers, electric strikes, maglocks, request-to-exit devices, door position switches, and power supplies Install and troubleshoot intercom and telephone entry systems Install and service intrusion/security systems Install and configure network switches, wireless access points, routers, and other network equipment Work with TCP/IP networks, IP addressing, PoE devices, VLANs, and basic network troubleshooting Install and service commercial doors, door closers, panic hardware, locking hardware, and related components Install and troubleshoot ADA/automatic door operators Install and service vehicle gates, gate operators, access controls, safety devices, loops, detectors, and related equipment Assist with fiber, commercial AV, and other integrated building technology systems Perform system programming, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and preventative maintenance Read and work from floor plans, wiring diagrams, project drawings, and manufacturer documentation Properly document completed work, testing results, deficiencies, and materials used Communicate professionally with customers, property managers, project managers, general contractors, and other trades Travel to customer job sites throughout the Northern Virginia / Washington DC / Maryland region REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Virginia DCJS eligibility is mandatory for this position Candidates must currently hold an active Virginia DCJS registration card OR meet all requirements necessary to obtain and maintain the appropriate DCJS registration An active Virginia DCJS registration card is a major advantage and strongly preferred Candidates who cannot qualify for the required Virginia DCJS registration will not be considered 1–3+ years of experience in low voltage, electronic security, structured cabling, access control, surveillance, networking, or a related field is preferred Experience terminating and testing Cat5e/Cat6 cabling Working knowledge of IP cameras, access control, intercoms, security systems, or related low-voltage equipment Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP addressing, PoE, switches, and patch panels Comfortable using cable testers, multimeters, tone generators, punch-down tools, crimpers, and standard low-voltage tools Comfortable working from ladders and lifts Ability to read wiring diagrams, floor plans, equipment manuals, and installation documentation Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Professional appearance and communication skills Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently once trained Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Ability to pass applicable background checks and meet security requirements for the facilities and customers we serve EXPERIENCE THAT IS A PLUS You do not need experience with every system below. Experience in any of these areas can be a significant advantage: Access control systems IP surveillance and VMS platforms DoorKing and other telephone entry/access systems Commercial gate operators and parking control systems Commercial doors and architectural hardware ADA/automatic door operators Fiber-optic installation, termination, and testing Managed networking and wireless systems Ubiquiti / UniFi MikroTik Commercial AV systems Fire alarm or life-safety systems BICSI certifications OSHA certifications Manufacturer-specific security, access control, networking, door, or gate certifications Additional manufacturer and technical training may be provided based on experience and position. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS $21–$28 per hour, based on experience, technical ability, certifications, DCJS status, and position level.
