Description

Summary: Join a collaborative internship for a motivated student or emerging software developer to expand, improve, and test an original software platform for market introduction. Highlights: 1. Contribute to an active product initiative with real market interest 2. Work directly with an experienced technology entrepreneur 3. Develop skills in front-end, back-end, UI design, and testing Williamsburg, Virginia | Approximately 15 Minutes from William & Mary In Person | Approximately 6–8 Hours Per Week I am a Williamsburg-area technology entrepreneur and the founder of two innovation-focused companies. One provides enterprise technology solutions involving generative AI, cloud computing, DevOps, and digital platforms, particularly within highly regulated industries. The other develops AI-powered products with a variety of practical business applications. I am personally seeking a motivated student or emerging software developer to work directly with me on an original software platform that is already in the early stages of development. Initial work has been completed, the product direction is established, and we have received some early interest from the marketplace. The selected candidate will contribute to an active product initiative by helping expand, improve, test, and prepare the platform for broader use and potential market introduction. Although the internship will be administered and paid through one of my companies, it will be a highly collaborative and personally led opportunity. The Opportunity The selected candidate will work primarily with me and may also receive guidance from one or two experienced members of my technology team. The work may include: - Front-end and back-end development - Expanding and refining existing functionality - User interface design and improvement - Functional and performance testing - Debugging, troubleshooting, and optimization - Deployment preparation and support - Repeated testing to help ensure a polished, high-quality product Responsibilities may evolve as the product develops and based on the selected candidate’s skills and contributions. Who I Am Looking For Current students, recent graduates, self-taught developers, and others with relevant practical experience are encouraged to apply. A completed computer science degree is not required. The ideal candidate will: - Have experience with at least one programming language - Understand basic software development concepts - Be comfortable working with existing code and functionality - Have an interest in both front-end and back-end development - Demonstrate strong attention to detail - Be patient and thorough when testing software - Be dependable, professional, and collaborative - Accept direction and constructive feedback - Enjoy improving and expanding an evolving product This opportunity is especially well suited for someone who is enthusiastic about technology and wants to make a meaningful contribution to a product that already has momentum while still being early enough for their work to have a visible impact. Schedule and Work Location The anticipated schedule is approximately two sessions per week, with each session lasting three to four hours. Specific days and times will be coordinated with the selected candidate. The work will initially be performed in person at my home office in the Williamsburg area, approximately 15 minutes from the William & Mary campus. The schedule is intended to be manageable alongside classes or other commitments. Because this is a private product development initiative, development will take place on company-provided computers, and project materials and work product must remain onsite. Applicants who appear to be a strong fit will first be invited to meet with me at a public location, such as a local coffee shop. No applicant will be asked to visit my home during the initial interview process. Compensation and Employment Structure This is a temporary, part-time internship administered through one of my technology companies. Compensation will range from $13 to $15 per hour, based on relevant skills and experience. All approved hours will be paid through the company’s normal payroll process and will be subject to applicable payroll withholdings. The selected candidate may also be eligible for a discretionary completion bonus of up to $500. The amount of any completion bonus will be based on factors such as reliability, technical contribution, quality of work, completion of agreed-upon responsibilities, and overall performance. The completion bonus is not guaranteed and will be determined solely by the company. This internship does not include equity, ownership, royalties, revenue participation, profit sharing, or rights to the product or its intellectual property. It also does not guarantee future employment or continued engagement beyond the initial internship period. Confidentiality and Project Ownership The project is private and may have commercial value. Before receiving access to confidential project details, the selected candidate will be required to sign appropriate confidentiality, nondisclosure, internship, and intellectual-property agreements. All software, source code, concepts, designs, documentation, data, and other work created as part of the internship will remain confidential and will be owned exclusively by the company, as further described in the applicable written agreements. Background Screening Because the position involves access to a private home office, company equipment, confidential information, and proprietary technology, final selection may be contingent upon the successful completion of a background check at the company’s expense. Any background screening will be conducted only with the candidate’s prior written authorization and in accordance with applicable law. How to Apply Interested candidates should reply directly to this post with a brief letter introducing themselves and explaining: - The programming languages, technologies, and development tools you have used - Relevant coursework, personal projects, websites, applications, or software you have created - Any experience with front-end development, back-end development, interface design, testing, or deployment - Any experience working with or improving existing software - Why this opportunity interests you - Why you believe you would work well with me and my team - Your general availability for in-person sessions in Williamsburg Please also include a current resume. A portfolio, GitHub profile, project screenshots, or links to examples of your work are welcome but not required. Candidates whose submissions appear to be a strong match will be contacted directly to arrange an informal introductory meeting at a public location. Those who advance beyond that meeting may then be invited to learn more about the product and discuss the internship in greater detail. Thank you for your time and consideration!
