Somedays Artisan Bakery & Café — 560 Lexington Ave, New York, NY
Company
Somedays is a scratch bakery and café known for handcrafted Viennoiserie — laminated croissants, pastries, and fresh-baked goods made to a high standard every day. We're opening a brand-new location at 560 Lexington Ave and building the founding bakery team. It's a rare chance to get in at the ground floor of a new store and grow with us.
Position
We're hiring Assistant Bakers to support daily production under the Head Baker. You'll be hands-on with mixing, lamination, shaping, proofing, and baking — learning and executing the Somedays Standard on every batch. This is a great fit for someone with some kitchen or bakery experience who's serious about their craft and wants to develop in a professional scratch bakery.
Please note: A valid NYC Food Protection Certificate is required for this role.
What you'll do
Assist with daily production of croissants, laminated doughs, pastries, and other baked goods following Somedays recipes and specs
Mix, laminate, shape, proof, and bake to standard, maintaining consistency batch to batch
Weigh and portion ingredients accurately; follow recipes and production sheets precisely
Keep the bakery stocked and on schedule so the café opens ready every day
Follow all food-safety and sanitation standards; keep stations, equipment, and storage clean and organized
Label, date, and rotate product using FIFO
Support the Head Baker and team during high-volume periods
What we're looking for
NYC Food Protection Certificate required — must be held at time of hire or obtained before your first shift
Some bakery, pastry, or professional kitchen experience preferred; lamination experience a plus (we'll train the right person)
Genuine interest in scratch baking and craft — you take pride in doing it right
Able to follow recipes and instructions precisely and repeat them consistently
Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, and time management
Reliable, punctual, and a team player
Comfortable with early-morning shifts, weekends, and holidays
Able to stand for long shifts and lift up to 50 lbs; comfortable working near ovens and in a fast-paced environment
