Sistah Scifi is a Black-owned bookstore and community organization focused on celebrating Black and Indigenous writers in speculative fiction. This is a part-time, in-person position with highly flexible hours for someone who enjoys keeping things organized, helping events and projects run smoothly, and working in a creative, community-centered environment. Responsibilities The Volunteer Operations Associate may assist with: Organizing books, inventory, supplies, and event materials Fulfilling online orders and delivering them to USPS and UPS in downtown Oakland Preparing materials for Sistah Scifi events and pop-ups Supporting inventory counts and basic inventory tracking Assisting with event setup and breakdown Preparing, shipping inventory for Sistah Scifi Book Vending machines in Seattle, WA Preparing and stocking Sistah Scifi Book Vending Machine in Oakland, CA Supporting volunteer coordination and on-site projects Completing light administrative and data-entry tasks Running occasional local errands related to events or operations Helping with other operational projects as needed Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate is: Love books! Celebrates diversity in speculative fiction across media Dependable, punctual, and comfortable working independently Highly organized and attentive to detail Comfortable with hands-on work, including organizing and packing materials Able to follow instructions and communicate clearly Comfortable using Google Docs, Google Sheets, email, and other basic digital tools Available to work in person in Oakland Some evening or weekend availability may occasionally be helpful for events. Compensation $1K/month, paid month. $100 in Sistah Scifi gift card each month.
