Description
Summary:
The SPAR Coordinator will guide patients through a specialized fertility treatment process, coordinating care and supporting program operations within a collaborative research and clinical team.
Highlights:
1. Meaningful part-time work with direct patient impact
2. Supportive environment with a small, collegial team
3. Consistent, predictable daytime hours; no evenings, weekends, or on-call
The Bedford Research Foundation’s SPAR program provides a medically supervised pathway for couples affected by HIV or other sexually transmitted infections to pursue fertility treatment with reduced risk of viral transmission. We are seeking an experienced nurse to coordinate patient care and support daily program operations.
What You'll Do
As SPAR Coordinator, you'll be the primary guide for patients navigating a specialized, often emotionally complex process. You'll work closely with a small, collegial team of researchers and clinicians in a supportive environment where your contributions directly shape patient outcomes.
Serve as the first point of contact for SPAR patients — answering questions, coordinating appointments, and providing compassionate, confidential support throughout their journey
Liaise with referring physicians and fertility clinics to ensure seamless coordination of care
Maintain meticulous records of specimens, test results, and patient accounts
Assist with laboratory procedures related to specimen processing and PCR testing
Handle billing and patient account management
Support ongoing reproductive health research projects
About the SPAR Program
The Special Program of Assisted Reproduction (SPAR) is an international program that makes family-building possible for couples when one partner is living with HIV or another sexually transmitted infection. Using highly sensitive PCR testing to screen semen specimens, the program enables fertility procedures with a dramatically reduced risk of viral transmission — work that sits at the intersection of cutting-edge science and profound human need.
Schedule & Compensation
This role offers a rare combination: consistent, predictable hours with no evenings, no weekends, and no on-call. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8:15 AM–2:15 PM — 18 hours per week, with some flexibility.
$35–$44/hour based on experience
Partial health insurance coverage (25%–50% of premium)
Retirement savings plan
What We're Looking For
You don't need to have worked in reproductive medicine before — we'll train the right person. What matters most is that you're a skilled nurse who cares deeply about patients, can handle sensitive information with discretion, and wants meaningful part-time work that fits around your life.
Active nursing license (RN or LPN) — required
Phlebotomy experience — highly valued
Background in clinical or laboratory settings
BS in Biology or related field — a plus
Strong organizational skills and comfort managing detailed records
Comfortable with Mac OS and standard applications
Warm, professional communication style with patients facing sensitive diagnoses
Who Thrives Here
This role is an excellent fit for retired or semi-retired nurses looking for purposeful part-time work, nurses re-entering the workforce after a career break, or experienced healthcare professionals who want meaningful clinical work without sacrificing the rest of their lives. The fixed daytime schedule — no evenings, weekends, or on-call — makes this role genuinely compatible with caregiving responsibilities, other pursuits, or simply a well-balanced life.
