Description
Summary:
Seeking a hands-on Financial Analyst/Accountant to redefine accounting processes, deep dive into data, and build clear financial pictures for an established ecommerce company.
Highlights:
1. Opportunity to redefine accounting processes and integrate them into operations
2. Chance to dig deep into ecommerce data and build reliable financial reporting
3. Role for a problem-solver who can explain complex financial information
We are a 20+ year established ecommerce company looking for a hands-on Financial Analyst / Accountant who is ready for a challenge.
This is not a position where you will simply receive clean reports, review them, and close out the month. Your task will be to re-define our accounting process and plug it into our operations.
We need someone who is willing to get knee-deep in the data, understand how money actually moves through our business, identify where the numbers don't make sense, and build a clear financial picture from the ground up.
Our business generates significant ecommerce transaction data through Shopify and other systems. We need someone who can take gross sales, payouts, refunds, discounts, payment fees, cost of goods, shipping, payroll, inventory purchases, operating expenses, and bank activity and bring it all together.
The goal is simple: give management a clear understanding of where the company is financially, where it is heading, and what needs to happen to create greater financial stability.
What You'll Be Doing
• Dig deeply into Shopify and ecommerce revenue data
• Analyze gross revenue versus true net revenue
• Reconcile sales, payment processor payouts, bank deposits, refunds, fees, and other transactions
• Analyze COGS, margins, shipping expenses, payroll, inventory purchasing, and operating expenses
• Build reliable weekly and monthly financial reporting
• Develop cash-flow and revenue forecasts
• Establish break-even points and revenue targets
• Identify trends, inconsistencies, unnecessary costs, and margin problems
• Help management understand where cash is going and what is driving changes in profitability
• Build better processes for tracking and understanding financial performance
• Assist with P&L reporting, reconciliations, AP/AR, budgeting, and general accounting
• Turn large amounts of financial and operational data into information management can actually use
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for a problem solver first.
You should be the type of person who sees a spreadsheet with thousands of transactions and wants to understand the story behind it.
You need to be comfortable walking into an established 20+ year business, learning how its financial systems work, finding gaps, and helping us create a better structure going forward.
You should have:
• Experience in accounting, financial analysis, or both
• Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
• Strong understanding of P&L, cash flow, COGS, margins, and forecasting
• Experience reconciling large amounts of transactional data
• The ability to work through incomplete or complicated financial information
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• The ability to explain complicated financial information in plain English
• Ecommerce and Shopify experience is helpful
• QuickBooks or similar accounting software experience is helpful
This Position Is for Someone Who Wants a Challenge
We're not looking for someone who only wants to maintain an existing accounting process.
