K-2 Learning Specialist Maternity Leave, Full-time, temporary position November 10, 2025- June 5, 2026 Burke's is an independent K-8 gender-inclusive all-girls’ school located on a 3.5-acre campus in San Francisco. We emphasize the development of fundamental and higher-level critical thinking skills in an atmosphere of creativity, exploration, academic rigor, and joyful learning.  Position Description Burke’s seeks a full-time professional to serve as the K-2 Learning Specialist. The K-2 Learning Specialist serves on the K-8 Student Support Services team (Learning Specialists and Counselors) to provide appropriate support for faculty, families, and students. We are seeking a candidate who is a team player and enjoys working collaboratively. An ideal candidate would also be organized and able to manage multiple projects; a strong listener and communicator, especially when dealing with sensitive topics; flexible and creative in problem-solving; and interested in learning and growing as a professional.  Responsibilities  Providing direct academic support through small-group pull-out classes in the Learning Center and push-in classroom support for Kindergarten-2nd grades. Collaborating with the K-8 Student Support Services team to support faculty, families, and students. Managing accommodations and exploring effective strategies for individual learning styles. Serving as case manager for all K-2 students who attend groups in the Learning Center or receive support outside of school.  Providing resources and consultation for faculty, parents, and students concerning learning differences and learning needs, including referrals for outside evaluations and support. Analyzing outside evaluations and sharing appropriate information with teachers for support of students in the classroom. Collaborating and communicating effectively with parents in formal and informal conferences and written reports. Write and share confidential student records with colleagues.  Scheduling and overseeing Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language screenings for K-2 Lower School classes and students, including facilitating communication with teachers and parents and facilitating parent information meetings with therapists. Providing support in understanding the nature of girls and their behavior to both teachers and families. Possibly serve on the Kindergarten Admissions Committee. Other duties as assigned. Certification and/or graduate degree in educational therapy, mild to moderate special education/learning disabilities, and/or reading instruction. Familiarity with an independent school environment is helpful, but not necessary. Demonstrated confidence in leveraging technology to support workflow and cultural competency. Understanding of the social-emotional and academic development of girls. Detail and solutions-oriented, flexible, and creative,  Strong verbal and written communication skills.
