RTGG has a team of knowledgeable, enthusiastic educators who teach students PreK - 5th grade how to plant seeds, tend and grow organic food, and harvest the fruits of their labor all while reinforcing relevant science objectives. About the Role: We are seeking Garden Educators that enjoy working with elementary-aged children, love nature and all things outdoors, are flexible and take ownership of their responsibilities. As a Garden Teacher, you are the face of Ready to Grow Gardens for our partner schools. You will travel to a different school each day (one per day) teaching students PreK - 5th grade, the Ready to Grow Gardens curriculum in outdoor classrooms (gardens). Garden Teacher Responsibilities: Teach 30-45 minute pre-designed garden lessons to elementary students throughout the school day Complete physical labor (pruning, fertilizing, weeding) to keep the school garden tidy and in season Collaborate with other Garden Teachers one Sunday afternoon each month to prepare for the next month’s lesson Complete Garden Day follow-ups (email communication) for each Garden Day in a timely manner Maintain positive relationships with students, teachers, parents, and administrators at assigned schools Communicate with schools about their responsibilities to ensure successful school garden growth Requirements Good interpersonal communication skills Excellent classroom management skills (experience in a traditional classroom, Sunday school, or camp environment) A minimum of 2 years of gardening experience (food and flowers) specifically in Texas. Works well independently and is able to prioritize responsibilities Must have their own form of reliable transportation Be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus Benefits Training & Development Fast track to a deep understanding the steps to successful gardening in Houston Teaching and interacting with students in a nontraditional setting (garden/outdoor classroom). What You’ll Do As a club leader at Veritas Prep you’ll help continue to build a strong extracurricular program, developing extracurricular programs and supporting our students in the areas of knowledge, unique skills, teamwork, leadership, and social and emotional growth. You’ll also: Help students develop positive attitudes while promoting and teaching unique skills, leadership, and teamwork. Develop a thorough knowledge of all the extracurricular policies approved by Veritas Prep High School, including state and league regulations. Attend public/staff/departmental meetings when required. Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school extracurricular program. Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events and adhere to scheduled facility times. Coordinate with maintenance and school employees and provide proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment and facilities. Monitor students' grades and conduct. Be present at all events, and while traveling, provide assistance and guidance to and safeguards for each participant. Complete and submit paperwork on all disabling injuries on proper forms. Direct student inductees Determine discipline and delineate procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary. Submit all records to Director of Athletics & Extracurriculars, including awards lists, all signature forms, and community service plans/events. Arrive early enough before meetings to adequately prepare and remain long enough afterward to help students with problems or to become involved in staff discussions. Perform such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the Principal/Director of Athletics & Extracurriculars. Transporting students to offsite related events, community service, field trips, etc. utilizing the Transportation Vehicles, following the School Vehicle Use Policy, and completing training regarding driving the Transportation Vehicles (optional). About Mission Bit Mission Bit is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that inspires youth of color to explore the world of STEM with project-based computer science education that embraces their identities. We offer a variety of hands-on STEM education programs, including biweekly, semester-long introductory coding courses. The role As a Lead Instructor for the Intro to VR class, you will be at the forefront of high-quality computer science education by connecting with students to foster an engaging and welcoming classroom environment! You’ll use Mission Bit’s in-house project-based curriculum to plan two lessons per week. This is a highly visible, student-facing role that reports directly to the Innovative Learning Manager. We’re proud to provide training to all instructional staff to prepare them to teach, along with ongoing support throughout the semester!
