The best place to start is by taking Bioscience 101: Theory and Practice of Optical Microscopy. It is a fun, easy going class: you will learn about a variety of career options and gain a marketable skill as a microscopist. Join us at an online info session or in person open house for more info (see contact info below), or just sign up for the class. The class starts August 19th 2025 and it ends on 12/9/25. For Biosci 101, the required attendance hours are Tuesdays 7-8 pm, via Zoom, plus one 3 hour weekly, in person, hands-on lab (your choice of Tuesdays 4-7 pm, or Wednesdays 4-7 pm, or Saturdays 12-3 pm). Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Senior Quality Control Specialist in Oak Ridge, TN. The candidate must possess an active DOE Q Clearance (or DOD) equivalent to be considered. Headquartered in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Navarro has active programs in place across the nation for DOE/NNSA, NASA, and the Department of Defense. The Sr. Quality Control Specialist performs first article, in-process, and final component inspections using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), manual inspection equipment, and visual inspection. They will translate engineering requirements to quality control plans and develop CMM programs as needed. This role will ensure compliance with quality requirements and ensure that manufactured or procured products meet specified standards before they progress to next phase of production or customer delivery. Major Duties and Responsibilities: • Interpret engineering drawings and confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality requirements. • Prepare quality control plans for components based on engineering specifications. • Develop Coordinate Measuring Machine programs. • Set-up and inspect components using CMM’s. • Utilize various manual measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, and other hand-held measuring devices. • Utilize vision-based equipment such as optical comparators for measurement of parts or part characteristics. • Evaluate inspection results to determine conformance to requirements. • Complete final inspection reports and first article inspection reports. • Upload inspection records to company server. • Document, track, and complete nonconformance reports. • Perform basic weekly and daily maintenance of CMM instruments. Track CMM performance to ensure calibration is accurate. • Understand basic statistical techniques sufficient for evaluation of measurement data trends. • Understand and follow Centrus quality procedures. • Train others on inspection techniques and tools when required. • Keep machines and work area clean and organized. • Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines. • Practice safe working behaviors and adhere to safety policies, guidelines, and procedures. • Other projects as assigned Requirements • High School diploma or equivalent. • Minimum of five years of experience in dimensional inspection and CMM programming. • Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5. • Programming and operation experience using Zeiss Calypso software and CMMs. • Experience inspecting tight tolerance, high value components. • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize projects to meet completion dates. • Ability to execute tasks assigned with minimum supervision. • Requires great attention to detail and the ability to read mechanical drawings and view CAD models and specifications. • Ability to write procedures and reports • Good communication skills with co-workers, engineering, and various support personnel. • Strong computer software skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. • Must possess a DOE Q-level security clearance. Desired Qualifications: • Modeling experience with SolidWorks. • Experience in the use of statistical tools such as Minitab.
