The MEP Modeler works closely with the Trade Specialists, Foreman, Project Managers and design team during and after the preconstruction phase of Design-Build, Design Assist or Hard Bid projects. Duties/Responsibilities: • Designs systems to safely, efficiently, and effectively treat wastewater, remove harmful substances, and return water to the ecosystem • Assesses the need for wastewater treatment systems based on current and projected future flows • Assists our partnering engineering firms with overall site layout and system specifications • Reviews and critiques water and wastewater treatment system proposals, plans, and designs • Conducts appropriate cost-benefit analyses for assigned projects • Prepares/reviews Process & Instrumentation Drawings of system equipment • Assists with development and maintenance of system control narratives • Collaborates with contractors and government agencies regarding construction of new treatment systems • Conducts studies regarding the collection, treatment, or distribution of water or wastewater • Provides government agencies with technical support and subject matter expertise on water resource and treatment • Maintains knowledge and subject matter expertise • Performs other related duties as assigned Required Skills/Abilities: • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Ability to design safe, efficient, and effective treatment systems • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software • Ability to run wastewater modeling software (GPS-X, Biowin, or similar), and/or willingness to learn • Thorough understanding of applicable government environmental and safety regulations Education and Experience: • Bachelors degree in Engineering required (civil, environmental, or chemical engineering preferred) • At least three years of related experience required Physical Requirements: • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times Additional: • Hybrid employee with flexible scheduling considered • This is a full-time position with benefits • Pay is DOE • Applicant must have a clean DMV record NOTICE OF WORK ENVIRONMENT & OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS The wastewater industry can be hazardous due to exposure to biological and chemical hazards, as well as physical dangers, including but not limited to, confined spaces, slips, falls, wet and/or humid conditions, high and/or low altitude, moving mechanical parts, high and/or precarious places, fumes and/or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, vibration, sewage, epoxy coatings, solvents, and excessive noise levels. Employees may come in contact with wastewater which contains human waste. Wastewater contains various bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause diseases in humans and animals. Workers can be exposed through contact with wastewater, aerosols containing pathogens, or contaminated equipment. Wastewater treatment processes also involve the use of various chemicals, some of which can be toxic or corrosive. It is imperative that employees wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols. While not mandatory, it is also highly recommended that employees stay current with vaccinations, including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, and Diphtheria.
