Responsible for matching and applying paint to various surfaces, completing touch ups, and coordinating large painting projects by using painting equipment and painting practices currently in use in the profession. Position Type: Part-Time Hours: 20 Hours Per Week Salary: $18.00 to $23.00 Per Hour Top Responsibilities: Meet with clients to discuss color and finish options. Perform routine inspections of properties for general upkeep. Maintain and update painting logs. Accurately estimate time and material costs. Select and purchase paint and supplies from vendors. Prep painting project sites by moving furniture and equipment as necessary to reach the entire surface of the project. Prep the surface by scraping, sanding, priming and sealing surfaces prior to painting. Protect all nearby furnishings and building materials before and during every painting job, including carpets, cabinetry, outlet covers, and lighting fixtures. Apply paint to various surfaces using either brushes, rollers, or airless paint sprayer. Clean and maintain all painting tools and equipment. Perform thorough site cleanup which includes removing debris, broken glass, putty or plastic. Replace window and door hardware as well as glass for windows, doors, and light fixtures. Operate appropriate aerial lifts and forklifts as needed to perform duties of the job. Attend and complete safety trainings related to occupational work conditions and safety hazards as required by the Facilities Department. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing assigned tasks as requested. Proudly serving all 25 of the largest transit agencies in North America, New Flyer actively supports over 35,000 heavy-duty transit buses currently operated by approximately 500 agencies POSITION SUMMARY: The Painter II will be responsible for the preparation and application of primer and finish coatings on transit buses. This role requires a thorough understanding of paint application processes, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment. The ideal candidate will work under the guidance of more senior staff to develop their skills further and will ensure that all work adheres to safety and quality standards. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Clean, prep, and apply primer and finish paint to buses according to specifications. Ensure proper paint application techniques are followed, including proper distances and overlaps. Mask and tape surfaces as per requirements to achieve a clean paint finish. Identify and rectify surface defects prior to painting. Conduct routine maintenance on spray equipment and ensure compliance with safety protocols. Participate in training programs to enhance skills and ensure compliance with company standards. Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with 5S principles. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; certification in painting or related field is a plus. Previous experience in automotive or industrial painting preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to differentiate color shades. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Strong communication and team collaboration skills. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to the position. Willingness to work in a dynamic production environment and adhere to safety regulations. Position Role : The role of Painter I within the Paint department is crucial, as it necessitates a comprehensive set of skills and expertise in applying a diverse range of liquid coatings. This includes, but is not limited to, the application of primers, single-stage topcoats, and base/clear coat systems, each of which requires a specific technique and attention to detail to achieve a high-quality finish. Furthermore, individuals in Painter I positions are not only proficient in their craft but are also expected to take on a mentorship role. They will have the responsibility and opportunity to train and develop Painter II positions, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages the sharing of knowledge and skills. This effort will not only enhance the overall capabilities of the department but also ensure a continuous improvement in the quality of work and the professional growth of the team members. Requirements What You Will Do: You will be responsible for all functions of the Painter I role, working independently and efficiently with minimal supervision. • Thrive in a fast-paced production paint setting. • Skillfully spray solid and high metallic colors to align with New Flyer standards. • Familiarity with the equipment is key, along with the ability to utilize it effectively for surface preparation before painting. • Read and interpret paint drawings for applying stencils or pre-masks when creating stripes or other paint designs. • Use fine line tape for both repairs and initial installations of paint striping. • Gain a thorough understanding of quality paint standards to ensure the finished products meet New Flier benchmarks. • Stay informed and consistently adhere to all painting safety policies and procedures while on the job. • Be prepared to lift and move up to 10 pounds regularly, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally handle up to 50 pounds. • Bend, stoop, reach, and climb as needed, including safely working on a ladder. • Wear a respirator for up to eight hours as required. • Keep your work area clean by following 5S and other lean initiatives, ensuring all dirt, dust, trash, and used sandpaper are properly managed. • Take on additional related responsibilities as assigned by management. • Regular attendance is crucial for this role. • Ensure you're at your workstation when the shift begins.
