HOURS: • 3 Days a Week (Either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) • 10:00 am-2:00 pm (or 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, employee's preference) • 12 hours a week • Employee will need to submit a W-4 form • Able to make at least a 5-month commitment to the job LOCATION: • The business is located in a home office/apartment in Oakland near Highland Hospital. • The apartment is located up three flights of stairs. It is not wheelchair accessible (no elevator) • I have two cats. If you have cat allergies, this job may not be suitable for you. PROS of this job: • Pleasant, relaxed working environment. • Make products that help people with disabilities. ABOUT: I create and sell simple communication products for individuals who are unable to speak. I run a small online store. Looking for a part-time employee to help me fill orders, make communication aids, and assist with packaging, simple bookkeeping, and other tasks. JOB ACTIVITIES • SIMPLE MANUFACTURING: Putting together simple (non-computerized) communication aids. This might involve attaching wires from a laser to a battery box, performing a small amount of soldering, drilling a hole in plastic, or placing a sticker with precision on a plastic board. The work does require some dexterity. • SIMPLE BOOKKEEPING: About 1/5 of the job will entail inputting information into QuickBooks (a bookkeeping software program). No experience required, training provided. Some computer experience would be helpful. • PACKAGING & SHIPPING : About 1/3 of the job is packaging and shipping orders. Must be able to lift 15 pounds. (Infrequent lifting.) -------- QUALITIES I'M LOOKING FOR IN AN EMPLOYEE: •ATTENTION TO DETAIL The products that I make require multiple steps and a good deal of precision. I take quality control very seriously. The products are for people who can't speak. If the device breaks down, the individual doesn't have a way to communicate.
