The ideal candidate will be responsible for the complete setup, operation, and in-process inspection of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathes to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, a deep understanding of machining processes, and a commitment to AS 9100 quality and safety. Key Responsibilities 1. Setup Duties: -Analyze and interpret engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). -Select, install, and align appropriate cutting tools, tool holders, and work-holding devices (e.g., chucks, collets, fixtures, bar feeders). -Load correct CNC programs into the machine controller. -Establish "zero" and reference points by setting work offsets (G54, G55, etc.) and tool offsets using probes, indicators, or manual touch-off methods. -Perform first-piece (first-article) inspection by running the program and verifying that all dimensions meet specifications. -Optimize machining processes by adjusting speeds, feeds, and tool paths (with appropriate approval) to improve efficiency and quality. 2. Operator Duties: -Operate CNC lathes to run production lots, including loading raw material (bar stock, castings, slugs) and unloading finished parts. -Monitor machine operation, listen for unusual noises, and observe for any malfunctions or tool wear. -Perform regular in-process quality checks using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and optical comparators. -Make necessary offset adjustments to the machine to maintain dimensional accuracy and part conformity within tight tolerances. -Change worn or broken cutting tools as needed and update corresponding tool offsets. -Deburr parts as they come off the machine, if required by the process. 3. Maintenance & Safety: -Perform routine operator-level machine maintenance, including checking and topping off coolant and lubricants, and clearing chips. -Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S principles. -Adhere to all company safety protocols, procedures, and policies, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). -Troubleshoot and resolve minor machine alarms or production issues. 4.
