This non-exempt position is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks which include providing guidance and advice to customers on the selection and care of plants, shrubs, trees; maintaining plant health care and ensuring an orderly work environment; and perform related work as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The examples of functions listed in this job description are representative, but not necessarily exhaustive, of any one position in this job classification. Management may assign other functions not listed herein at its sole discretion. • Appropriately greets every customer who enters the garden center; • demonstrates a professional approach to customer service at all times; • provides guidance on plant questions and needs as applicable; • assists customers with loading products into vehicles as needed; • communicates with customers regarding appropriate planting and watering instructions; • supports facility maintenance activities; • completes tasks on daily checklists; • maintains all pathways appropriately; • ensures all garden areas including display areas are appealing; • takes appropriate measures to keep the bulk material area safe and orderly; • keeps the nursery grounds presentable and well organized; • performs routine weeding procedures; • demonstrates professional knowledge of plant care procedures; • ensures plants are being watered accurately and appropriately; • loads and unloads potting and tagging plants and trees when needed; • maintains outdoor plant displays and surrounding areas, including weeding as needed; • communicates all plant issues to the Nursery Manager; • stocks hard goods; • assists with creating and maintaining plant displays and gardens; • supports landscape installation projects; • tags plants for design projects as requested; • pulls appropriate tagged plants for installation projects; • prepares plant material for installation projects in designated designer staging areas; • assists with receiving product deliveries; • maintains a clean work environment including breakrooms, bathrooms, and community spaces; • assembles potting trays (putting pots in trays), hanging pots and caged pots; • communicates with Nursery Manager when there are issues with products or products need to be reordered; • able to identify ornamental landscape plants, native landscape plants, invasive plants, weeds, local insect pests and signs of damage and local diseases by common name; • maintains watering hoses, pipes, and nozzles; • prunes trees, shrubs, and vines to encourage healthy growth; • demonstrates basic fertilizer application techniques; • recognizes plants with problems and addresses to the general needs of plants; • demonstrates proper watering techniques specific to plant conditions; • maintains tools and equipment to ensure safety; • role models PPE usage; • removes dead pots and cull plants not fit for sale; • immediately reports unsafe conditions or faulty equipment to the Crew Leader; • complies with all company policies and safety procedures; • takes direction well and works collaboratively with other employees; • ensures a safe, legally-compliant, and horticulturally friend nursery environment; • provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, work-site partners, and Company staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
