Program Description The TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Program at the University of Mount Saint Vincent is a federally funded initiative serving first-generation, low-income, and students with documented disabilities. Using the FACE framework—Financial Literacy, Academic Success, Community, and Engagement—TRiO SSS offers advising, tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment activities that promote academic achievement, cultural awareness, and student retention. Position Overview The TRiO SSS Advisor for Programming designs and delivers inclusive, culturally responsive programs that support academic success, financial literacy, leadership, and personal growth. Working with TRiO staff, campus partners, and community organizations, the Advisor ensures programming aligns with TRiO goals and student needs. Responsibilities: Design and facilitate educational, cultural, and social programming that supports TRiO students’ academic persistence, personal growth, and career readiness. Develop a comprehensive F.A.C.E.-branded calendar of events (Financial Literacy, Academic Success, Community, and Engagement) per academic year. Coordinate and lead workshops, trips, and recognition events that reflect TRiO’s mission and address student needs. Plan and execute signature events including: Welcome Back!, Conversations that Matter, Focus Days, Health is Wealth, TRiO Works! Week, Fall and Spring Trips, Meet the Faculty, Wordsmith, and First Gen Day Assist in planning and executing the on-campus Summer Enrichment Program, including overnight stays as needed. Manage event logistics including space reservations, vendor coordination, marketing, and budget tracking. Lead efforts to promote events and increase TRiO student participation by 15% each semester. Oversee the development and execution of the TRiO mentorship and ambassador programs. Provide guidance to TRiO students in planning and executing student-led initiatives and events. Support students in developing leadership, critical thinking, and event planning skills. Serve as a resource for students seeking involvement in co-curricular activities, civic engagement, and leadership development. Motivate and encourage students through daily interactions and mentorship. Maintain a consistent presence in the office to ensure accessibility and support. Address and de-escalate conflict or crisis situations, providing appropriate referrals when necessary. Build and maintain strong relationships with campus departments (e.g., Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Registrar’s Office, Center for Leadership, Career Services, Residential Life) and external organizations to enhance programming. Work closely with TRiO staff to align programming with grant objectives and student success metrics. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure clarity of goals, timelines, and responsibilities. Assist in hiring and supervising up to three (3) student workers. Monitor program budgets and expenditures, ensuring compliance with TRiO grant regulations. Maintain detailed and accurate records of student profiles, attendance, and progress to track development and outcomes. Conduct evaluations and collect feedback to assess program impact and inform future planning. Ensure all programming adheres to institutional policies and TRiO federal guidelines. Collaborate with the TRiO team to support program assessment, reporting, and expansion. Plan and participate in annual national conferences. Perform other duties as assigned Requirements Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, counseling, or social sciences; Master’s degree is preferred; Two (2) years of experience in student programming, advising, or event coordination, preferably within a TRiO or similar federally funded program. Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse student populations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new technologies and systems.
