Master HVAC Technician - Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune Competitive Wages and an INSURANCE ALLOWANCE! Tuition Reimbursement The Master HVAC Technician installs, modifies and repairs refrigeration systems such as: hermetic, semi-hermetic, screw, scroll and centrifugal units to 1100 tons; air conditioning; VAV and ventilation; VRF systems; CRAC units; geo-thermal; reversible chillers; air and water-cooled chillers; process coolers; ice machines; evaporative cooling; air compressing and related control systems, including pneumatic, DDC, and building control systems equipment. This person performs advanced installation tasks involving assembly, testing, calibrating, and adjusting of temperature control and environmental control systems such as air conditioning plants, air environmental control systems, air distribution systems and complex dual equipment cooling installations, specialized refrigerated warehouses and facilities and dehumidification systems. Additionally, the Master HVAC Technician installs new or repaired components and performs complex modifications of systems and components in accordance with applicable electrical publications and directives, and will maintain and repair specialized equipment such as DOAS; MAU and Pool Pak systems. This mechanic may perform complex repair of systems component such as compressors, condensers, heat pumps, fluid and refrigerant gas lines, valves, meters, gages, thermostats, pumps, mechanical linkage, electrical components, switching and controlling devices including pneumatic controls, variable speed drives, digital controlled devices, hydronic heating, cooling and economizer systems Salary $58.40/ hr. plus $14.75 fringe benefits used towards insurance and 401k! Key Responsibilities Diagnose and repair various refrigerant systems to include; Variable Refrigerant Flow Systems, Chillers, Reversible Chillers, CRAC Units Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools, cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment. Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant, installs various refrigerant valves in circuit(s) Test joints and connections in refrigerant piping for leaks using leak detector, verifies leak free using vacuum pump and vacuum hold test Test and verify proper operation of components, connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and ventilation fans Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units Add/remove Freon to refrigerant systems to achieve proper subcooling and superheat Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them in place with cement or wire bands Install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging up to 1100 tons cooling capacity in warehouses, barracks and commercial buildings Prepare work orders and cost materials estimates Assist in training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques Performs other related duties as assigned Essential Skills Knowledge and proficiency of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of commercial and industrial grade HVAC equipment Required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance on HVAC equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and handling hazardous materials Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: indoor air monitoring equipment and interpret resulting data; standards for design and construction; air conditioning and heating codes; hazards and safety precautions; and refrigerant handling and disposal Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of HVAC equipment Be adaptable and flexible in work situations PRACTICE WORKPLACE SAFETY in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of HVAC equipment Including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) Requirements High School Diploma, GED or equivalent amounts of technical training and experience 10+ years of ADVANCED experience in the advanced maintenance, repair, installation and operation of COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Experience must include inspection, disassembly, assembly, replacement and repair of heating, ventilation, refrigeration and/or air conditioning systems to include compressors, motors, burners, pumps, filters, ductwork, pipes, valves, refrigerants and their recovery systems and pressure vessels Experience in installing, calibrating, troubleshooting and replacement of control systems is required EPA Universal Refrigeration License Valid driver's license compliant with REAL ID Act or are you willing and able to obtain one Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check Regular, dependable attendance OVERTIME- Available evenings & weekends US citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations Physical Requirements Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions * Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
