The Department of Specialty Medicine at the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking Board-Certified (AOA or ABMS) faculty with a strong commitment to preclinical education to join our team. Applicants should hold a DO (preferred) or MD, possess an active medical license, and be board-certified in a medical specialty (e.g., Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Emergency Medicine) or surgical specialty. We are especially interested in individuals who bring a solid understanding of adult education and active learning methodologies. Faculty in this department contribute across disciplines and participate in all aspects of the preclinical curriculum. Knowledge and experience in Problem-Based, Case-based or Team-Based Learning are highly desirable. This is a full-time position requiring 24 hours on campus and an additional 8 hours of off-campus work per week. Candidates with prior experience—or clear potential—for integrating biomedical sciences into an innovative, case-based, clinically oriented, and system-based curriculum are encouraged to apply. All candidates are expected to become proficient facilitators and participate in the Case-Based Learning program, the cornerstone of our curriculum, Clinical Skills, OSCE, OMM labs and Simulation Courses, as appropriate. The curriculum features principles of self-directed learning, flipped classroom, minimal traditional lectures, spaced and spiraled learning. Faculty participate as Facilitators in student facing labs including: Anatomy Lab, CBL, Learning Consolidation, Clinical Skills, OSCE, Simulation courses and OMM as assigned. RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as a facilitator case based learning, clinical skills, OSCE, simulation, learning consolidation, anatomy lab, OMM and other courses and activities as assigned by the department chair or Associate Dean for Preclinical Education. Develop and participate in student directed learning and/or course material as assigned. Serve the academic activities of the Department of Specialty Medicine and OCOM in teaching/facilitating medical students, performing scholarly activities, and service. Work, as assigned by department chair, with OCOM support staff. Facilitate/Teach in any assigned courses or act as a course director, if assigned Participate in all educational activities to meet the curricular needs of the department. Participate in the educational activities to include course structure and content, course preparation, written course materials, lecture or demonstration (if appropriate), workshop and lab presentations, course quizzes, exams and practicals, course evaluations and course faculty evaluations. Serve as a student advisor Participate in student interviews Participate in student mentoring in preparation for examinations including licensing board exams as well as coaching unmatched students. Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion. The faculty member possesses excellent oral and written communication skills. Participate in the medical education of OCOM students in all four years, residents, and physicians, as assigned. Time Allocation This job requires the individual to commit to 3 days on campus each week during normal business hours or as assigned by the chair. An additional 8 hours of off campus work. Systems Specialist II
This position is responsible for assisting in the operation of the department. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties throughout the facility as assigned and or as necessary. In addition to the responsibilities below, the Systems Specialist II performs routine technical duties in troubleshooting and repairing of components within building automation field cabinets, sensors, and related controls. They typically work under the direct supervision of a higher-level building automation technician but may be asked to perform tasks at the capacity of a Systems Specialist II. The location of work for this position will primarily be in the Sterling VA area. Essential Functions: An individual must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position with or without a reasonable accommodation.
