Position Title: Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant Fellowship Location: Arizona Department: Orthopedic Surgery Program Length: 12 months Start Date: January 2026 Compensation & Benefits Competitive annual stipend Comprehensive employee benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and malpractice coverage Paid time off and CME allowance Program Overview The Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant Fellowship is a structured, full-time, 12-month advanced training program designed for recent PA graduates or early-career Physician Assistants who want to build specialized expertise in orthopedic surgery. This fellowship provides a robust transition from PA school to clinical practice in a high-volume, high-acuity surgical setting. Fellows gain extensive experience working alongside attending orthopedic surgeons, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers—developing advanced skills in diagnostics, surgery, and patient care across both inpatient and outpatient settings. Clinical Training Operative experience across orthopedic subspecialties (trauma, sports medicine, joints, spine, hand, foot & ankle) First-assist responsibilities in the OR, plus pre- and post-operative patient management Outpatient exposure including fracture care, injections, and follow-up visits Emergency department consultations and inpatient orthopedic management Daily rounds and multidisciplinary case discussions Educational Components Weekly didactic sessions and hands-on skills labs Participation in orthopedic journal clubs and CME opportunities Completion of a quality improvement or research project during fellowship year Certificate of Completion awarded upon successful graduation Preparation for the NCCPA Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Orthopedic Surgery Eligibility Requirements Graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program NCCPA certification (or eligibility at the time of application) Active or eligible PA licensure in Arizona DEA registration Current BLS and ACLS certifications Demonstrated interest in orthopedic surgery with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills Application Requirements Current CV Personal statement outlining interest in orthopedic surgery and fellowship goals Three letters of recommendation (including one from a surgical or clinical preceptor) Official PA program transcript (if requested) Proof of NCCPA certification or eligibility Next Steps This fellowship is designed for motivated Physician Assistants seeking advanced clinical training, direct surgical experience, and a structured path into orthopedic subspecialties.
