Light turns green, push the clutch in, and as soon as you slide gear lever back in first gear, the engine automatically kicks back on. Super cool.\r\n\n\r\n\nThis thing grew on me so much so, that at one time I had 3 insights. Currently still have 2. Can't keep both.\r\n\n\r\n\nSince I planned to keep this forever, I permanently registered it in my business in Montana.\r\n\n\r\n\n\r\n\nAC works well.\r\n\nNo grinds on downshifts to second which is common on insight manuals!\r\n\nHybrid battery pack works well!\r\n\nPaint is shiny and very good! Also a common thing on insights is peeling or fading paint. This is better than 99% of them out there.\r\n\nGas adjustable shocks all around make for a perfectly smooth great ride, much better than stock.\r\n\nProper Bridgestone low rolling resistance tires made just for the first generation insight with lots of tread.\r\n\nNew 12v battery.\r\n\nOrange tool on lower dash is window breaker and seat belt cutter that was there when I bought it. Before I retired I was commuting around 20 miles per day (in town) and I would grid charge about every 4 months. Typical would be 55-65mpg with normal driving during heavy traffic.\r\n\nI’m the third owner and have owned it since 2010 and have maintained it myself, following the Honda Maintenance Schedule, and replacing the Mobil One 0w-20 synthetic oil and Honda filter approximately every 3.5k miles. \r\n\nThis car has proven to be very dependable and extremely economical. Never needing any professional troubleshooting or repairs. With the assistance of the Insight Central Forums I’ve been able to figure out and perform all repairs myself and would expect most other home repair car people could continue to do the same.\r\n\nSpark plugs were replaced with the proper plugs around 100K\r\n\nValve clearances checked/no adjustments needed at around 100k\r\n\nFomoto oil drain valve installed to make oil changes quick and easy\r\n\n\r\n\nThe Gen 1 Insight is truly a unique vehicle, outstanding engineering, assembled on the same low volume, specialized, high quality assembly line that Honda’s halo car the Acura NSX was assembled on. (As was Honda’s highly respected S2000 sports car too). One of the lowest drag-coefficients (0.25cd) of any mass produced car. Needless to say these cars were engineered and built to very high build qualities. \r\n\nHonda went all out to prove that they can design and manufacture the most fuel efficient car of it’s age. It’s a title it held for over 15 years! And is still one of the most gas efficient non-plug-in vehicles available to this day. \r\n\nThese cars are known for frequently going to 250k and more. This car is in excellent condition with many more years and miles left in it. \r\n\n\r\n\nIf you drive a personal car for work and are reimbursed for mileage, this car will pay you back in dividends with every fill up. Think about it, Honda dependability, very low overall purchase price, extremely low maintenance costs and unheard of daily operating/mileage costs. \r\n\nExample: Drive 400 mi. @ 70mpg, 400/70=5.7gal consumed. 5.7x$3.5/gal=$20 gas cost 400x $0.75/mi (IRS reimbursement rate) =$300 reimbursement for $20 of gas cost! \r\n\nWhat would be ideal is for it to receive a lithium battery upgrade which will allow it to significantly improve its performance and already outstanding mpg.\r\n\nInterior is in overall good condition except for some wear on the drivers seat side bolster and the drivers side carpet is also worn, but covered with mats so it’s not noticeable. \r\n\nThe paint on old Hondas can be an issue, as many now have failing clear coats. The clear coat on the roof of this car was failing and was recently sanded down to remove the failed clear coat and has been re-clear coated with 2K catalyst paint which should last for many more years. The rest of the paint is in fairly good condition except for some slight paint failure at the very rear edge of the engine hood, which has been resealed with primer and touch up paint. \r\n\nOtherwise only rock pitting on hood and one small area of touch-up paint. The car has no significant dings or dents, and only few light scratches.
