Junior System Administrator / IT Support Technician
Utilities One is looking for a reliable and hands-on Junior System Administrator / IT Support Technician to maintain and support the basic IT infrastructure and end-user equipment in our New Jersey office. The role involves hardware maintenance, basic network troubleshooting, software installations, device logistics, and remote support coordination with the central IT/security teams. This is an on-site position.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Maintenance & Support
Basic maintenance of company laptops and desktops (replacing RAM, SSDs, thermal paste, etc.)
Reinstallation and configuration of operating systems (primarily Windows)
Formatting and partitioning drives properly based on internal standards
Diagnosing and repairing basic hardware/software issues
Preparing and configuring laptops/desktops for employee use
Network Support (Basic)
Restarting and basic maintenance of office networking equipment (routers, switches, Wi-Fi access points)
Reporting and escalating major connectivity issues to the central IT department
Mobile Devices & Tablets
Basic setup and configuration of company smartphones and iPads
Assisting with email, VPN, or app configuration on mobile devices
Managing inventory and assignment of mobile devices
Device Logistics & Inventory
Managing inventory of all IT equipment assigned to employees
Preparing, shipping, and tracking laptops/desktops for remote/hybrid staff
Keeping records of equipment issued, returned, replaced, or under repair
Ensuring returned equipment is wiped and properly reset
Employee Support
Daily assistance with IT-related issues (passwords, app access, printing, etc.)
Remote support via AnyDesk/TeamViewer when necessary
Acting as local hands for the main IT/Security team when remote execution isn't possible
Escalating more complex issues to higher-level IT staff when needed
Requirements
Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems installation and configuration
Experience with computer hardware: RAM/SSD upgrades, thermal paste replacement, internal cleaning
Understanding of local network basics (DHCP, IP addressing, restarting routers/switches)
Familiarity with remote support tools and general IT troubleshooting methods
Ability to keep organized logs of issued/returned devices and hardware status
Ability to follow procedures provided by the central IT/security teams
Nice to Have (Optional)
Basic scripting or PowerShell knowledge
Experience using device inventory or asset management tools
Basic understanding of cybersecurity hygiene (password practices, device encryption, etc.)
Experience with MacBooks is a plus
