JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE OF POSITION To assist Cost Estimating staff in the generation of cost elements for Estimating Equipment/ Work Bid packages. Conceptual detailed estimates are utilized by Budgeting, Scheduling, Purchasing, and Engineering groups for their respective functions. Other Requirements: Must possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel is preferred. Must possess standard knowledge of project integration theories, concepts, techniques, procedures, and practices to successfully complete moderately difficult work assignments. Must be able to work under direct supervision with detailed instructions to perform assigned tasks following established procedures. Must be able to strictly adhere to specific, detailed guidelines covering basic aspects of project cost principles. Must obtain, clarify, or give facts or information Must possess good verbal and written communication skills to assist in preparing materials for presentations, reports, and bid packages.  Must have the ability to arrive at a meaningful and fair estimate utilizing preliminary information.  Requires strong communication skills in order to obtain information from, Engineering and Estimating groups. Must have the ability to read blueprints, specifications, and other related documents. Must perform specific, routine operations to facilitate the work of others. Must be able to interface with employees within immediate department.  Must have the ability to interface with other departments and local vendors as well for the purpose of exchanging information. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS 1.       Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations. 2.       Implement standards contained in the Company "Code of Business Ethics and Conduct," Corporate EEO practices, and DOE directives. 3.       Develop detailed cost estimates for procurement functions including bid analysis and vendor evaluation. 4.       Support Purchasing and Engineering Management in negotiations of change notice estimates with subcontractors. 5.       Support management in analyzing alternatives in funding strategies and budget development. 6.       Review engineering drawings and specifications for correctness and to ensure they are current; serve as checker. 7.       Suggest possible cost saving alternatives to Management and Engineering during estimating cycle. 8.       Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. 9.       Regular attendance is required. Warfel Construction Company is looking for a Project Estimator to join our Client-focused team. This position can be based in Winchester, VA. The Project Estimator will primarily be responsible for the successful creation of construction estimates related to a completed bid package. The ideal candidate will be detailed in their takeoff, meticulous in their descoping of trade partners and estimate completion, as well as proactive in client needs and expectations as we participate in the preconstruction process. As a Project Estimator, you can expect to: Review bid documents to understand the project and develop meaningful preconstruction RFI’s. Prepare bid deliverables, including detailed quantity take-off, clarifications/exclusions and variance reports of assigned trades of work.
