Job Purpose: To design, modernize, and maintain C/C++ applications on Linux systems as part of a critical platform upgrade. This role focuses on replacing outdated GUI frameworks with modern alternatives, ensuring system reliability, performance, and compliance with secure development standards. Requirements Key Responsibilities: Develop, maintain, and enhance real-time, high-reliability C/C++ software for Linux environments. Modernize legacy desktop GUIs by transitioning from Motif/X11 to current frameworks such as GTK, Qt, or EFL using Wayland. Automate build and deployment tasks with Bash scripting. Improve application performance through multithreading, low-level memory management, and system-level scheduling techniques. Troubleshoot and profile applications using tools like gdb, valgrind, strace, and perf. Apply secure coding techniques and prepare systems for audit and compliance readiness. Integrate graphical interfaces with backend services and enterprise middleware. Manage and configure Linux desktop environments, including lightweight window managers. Maintain source control workflows and CI/CD pipelines using Git and Bitbucket. Design and support inter-process communication via sockets, DBus, and shared memory. Assist with containerized application deployments using Docker in secure environments. Create technical documentation for architecture, migration strategies, and operational guidelines. Required Skills & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline. Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in C/C++ programming on Linux systems. In-depth knowledge of Linux application development, including event-driven and real-time programming. Strong experience in GUI modernization, specifically migrating from Motif/X11 to frameworks like GTK, Qt, or Wayland. Skilled in Bash scripting and build tools such as Make, CMake, and Meson. Understanding of Wayland architecture and client-compositor communication models. Experience with Git-based version control and automated CI/CD environments (e.g., Bitbucket, GitLab). Strong grasp of Linux internals, performance tuning, and IPC (sockets, shared memory, DBus). Excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with OpenGL or Vulkan for graphics rendering. Familiarity with developing custom Wayland protocols and optimizing shared memory IPC. Background in secure software development in mission-critical or regulated environments.
