We offer competitive compensation of $17.00 an hour, PTO and an employee discount for part-time employees. 20 hours per week. Shift days are Monday through Sunday. Shifts are 5:30am-11:30pm and 4:00pm-10:00pm Job Purpose: The Parks & Planning Custodian is responsible for maintaining an inviting, safe and clean environment in and around the Park District’s facilities for guests and staff. The custodian performs basic cleaning, maintaining and up-keeping tasks. Additionally, this position will frequently interact with program patrons, providing directions and answers to questions. Essential Functions: Perform various custodial duties, including vacuuming, mopping, window cleaning (interior and exterior), sweeping (interior and exterior), trash removal, dust mopping, dusting etc. Ensure all areas of the facility are kept clean including multi-purpose rooms, programming spaces, common areas, bathrooms, offices, elevator, walking track, work-out spaces, and stairways. Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, patrons and participants by being aware of surroundings and notifying appropriate staff of anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. Communicate and enforce Park District and facility rules and policies to participants and patrons. Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, and participants immediately or directing them to the appropriate staff member. Operate various cleaning equipment including walking behind machines and effectively use tools. Report maintenance needs to supervisor; follow-up on status with supervisor. Complete all checklists, reports and paperwork as needed. Return all equipment to its proper place as specified by a supervisor and maintain a neat work environment. Wear a PDOP staff shirt and identification during all work hours. Monitor facility public spaces and greet customers. Report any hazards around the facility. Report facility accidents and incidents with appropriate documentation. Additional Functions: Assist with emergency procedures and building evacuation when required. Assist with snow removal when required. Assist with deliveries. Assist with leading and training staff. Knowledge, Skill and Work Experience Required: Must be 18 years of age. Must have a valid Driver’s License With a good driving record. Must maintain valid driver's license at all times. Must pass a pre-employment drug test. This position is part of a random drug test policy. High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous work experience preferred. Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks without supervision. Must be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role in the park, even while working under potentially stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset or injured park visitors, etc.). Must be able to complete required Park District training. Ability to work effectively with entire District staff, work with a variety of people and personalities, and maintain a positive working relationship with other employees Ability to respond to problems or stressful situations at all times and with good judgment and accuracy Certified in First Aid and CPR/AED within three months of hire.
