About the Role: We’re looking for a highly organized and detail-driven Payroll Specialist to join our team. The key objective of this role is to transition payroll from an outsourced provider to an in-house system—building streamlined, compliant, and scalable processes. You’ll also be responsible for managing employee benefits, handling workers’ compensation administration, ensuring state compliance with job postings, and supporting core HR initiatives including PTO tracking and employee handbook development. What You’ll Do: Lead the transition of payroll from a third-party provider to an internal system Process and manage payroll accurately and on schedule for all employees Administer employee benefit programs (health, dental, vision, etc.) Ensure compliance with state job posting laws and labor regulations Manage and report on workers’ compensation claims, coordinating with vendors and insurance providers Track and maintain PTO balances and leave records in compliance with company policies Develop and update employee handbooks and HR policies Respond to payroll and benefit inquiries from employees in a timely, professional manner Generate payroll and HR-related reports; support audits and compliance reviews Stay informed on federal and state payroll/HR laws and recommend improvements Requirements Qualifications: 2+ years of payroll experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have led or contributed to an in-house payroll transition Working knowledge of employee benefits, PTO tracking, and HR operations Experience with state-specific job posting compliance and workers’ compensation processes Proficiency with payroll and HR systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Gusto, Workday, etc.) Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information with discretion Excellent communication and organizational skills Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, HR, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Nice to Have: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) Experience with multi-state payroll Familiarity with employment law and best practices for HR documentation Benefits Salary: $65,000-$85,000 DOE Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance
