This individual will work closely with a team of tax professionals and our client advocates to manage client relationships, deliver complex tax planning and compliance, and drive the growth of the practice’s tax practice. The ideal candidate is a CPA with 10+ years of experience in tax, a proven track record of working across large teams, and strong technical expertise in tax law and compliance.   Key Responsibilities Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients on complex issues, managing high-level tax planning, compliance, and consulting engagements. Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing strategic tax advice, identifying tax-saving opportunities, and addressing client concerns. Ensure client satisfaction by delivering timely, accurate, and proactive tax solutions tailored to each client’s needs.   Tax Compliance & Planning: Lead the preparation and review of complex tax returns for corporations, partnerships, individuals, trusts, and estates, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws. Provide advanced tax planning strategies, focusing on minimizing tax liabilities and optimizing tax positions for clients. Stay current on changes in tax legislation and regulations, and advise clients on the impact of new laws or opportunities for tax savings.   Practice Development: Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients, offering additional value-added services in tax and other related areas. Lead and manage tax professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure high performance and professional development. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support the professional growth of team members through training and development programs. Monitor and manage tax risks for both the practice and clients, ensuring that tax positions taken are defensible and aligned with the practice’s ethical standards. Requirements Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or Enrolled Agent (EA) required. 10+ years of experience in public accounting or tax, with a focus on tax compliance, planning, and advisory services. Proven experience managing and leading professionals. Strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations, including experience with complex tax returns and planning. Excellent communication and client relationship management skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously. Demonstrated leadership abilities, including mentoring and developing staff. Proficiency in tax software (e.g., UltraTax, Axcess Tax, Lacerte) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).   Preferred Skills Master’s degree in Business Administration, Taxation or other related field. Strong business development and networking skills, with a track record of growing client relationships and practice areas. Familiarity with project management tools and techniques to streamline workflow and improve team efficiency.   Working Conditions Office-based position in Santa Cruz or Cupertino with the potential for occasional remote work depending on practice policies.
