Description

Are you looking for a stable, long term live-in role as a special needs caregiver? Are you willing to learn and master some key caregiving skills? Do you have a calm, even-keeled demeanor and a background free of criminal offenses? Can you commit to a minimum of 18 months residency? Do you want to be part of a team of live-in caregivers providing round the clock medical care and attention to a profoundly disabled teenage boy? If so, read on! The patient: David is a 17 year old boy with profound cerebral palsy. He cannot walk or talk. He breathes and eats through tubes. He requires machinery to sustain life. And he is our whole world. David is a bright, happy, and energetic teenager beginning his transition to adult life. He is mostly confined to his hospital bed, but does get out for various therapies. This can include physical therapy, equine therapy (horseback riding), aquatic therapy (we have a swimming pool on site), and other traditional and non-traditional forms of therapy. He enjoys being read to and really loves watching science fiction shows on his iPad. He is medically very fragile but his needs are very well defined. The job: This role is located in beautiful Moulton, Texas. A tiny village of 850 people, we are nestled in the rolling prairie hills of Lavaca County between Houston and San Antonio. We have purchased the house next door to ours and are currently remodeling it to be David’s residence. We plan to have 5-6 caregivers living on site to provide round the clock care for David. You will work 40 hours a week, with 36 hours devoted to David’s care and 4 hours devoted to household chores such as cleaning and keeping the house and grounds organized. You will have your own room and closet and will share a bathroom with one other caregiver. It is likely you will work no more than 3-4 days a week and the rest of the time is up to you to do whatever you want. Moulton is rural but we are only 90 minutes from 3 of the top 10 largest cities in the United States. Austin, San Antonio, and Houston are all accessible. If you wish to spend some time in Houston, we can reserve a condominium for your use at a competitive rate. There are international airports in all three locations. The job will pay a competitive caregiver rate of 12-15 per hour. Other benefits include free rent, paid time off, and access to a serene and tranquil rural environment that is very healing. Job requirements: • This role is a live-in role which requires a commitment of a minimum of 18 months without exception. • Deep commitment to honesty • Strong work ethic • Open minded and friendly: ability to connect and get along with virtually anyone • This role is residential and only available to female applicants • Individuals will be evaluated. Couples / families / groups need not apply. • BONUS: any experience with healthcare, caregiving, or nursing ! You will not require: • Anything that won’t fit inside of two suitcases – this is a bit of an exaggeration but we do not have much space outside of what is allocated • Pets • A car – transportation will be provided and space is again very minimal. Moulton is very walkable • Dishonesty, laziness, treating others less than yourself Things we will teach you: • Tracheostomy care • Gastrostomy stoma care • Respiration machine • Suction machine • Tube feeding • Medications and daily care • Bathing, cleaning, and caregiving • David’s education requirements • Therapy, aquatic and otherwise If this sounds like you DO NOT WAIT TO APPLY – WE WANT TO TALK TO YOU! Just send us an email with as much of the following as you can muster – we will take it from there! • Name • Contact information o Email or o Phone number (preferred) • Photos or social media links so we can get to know you • Your background / story – tell us why we should hire you! • Any question you may have There will be one or two video interviews and we will make decisions from there. We hope to be fully staffed by January and are actively hiring folks right now.
