KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES We are searching for a Manufacturing Engineer/Continuous Improvement Specialist to assist in assessing, monitoring, suggesting and assisting in implementation of improvements in our manufacturing plants. This will include production, shipping and receiving, and other business performance at the plant level. The ideal candidate will work with the Company’s Directors of Continuous Improvement and Engineering as well as the Regional Plant Leadership to analyze current practices and develop process improvements as well as implement changes in production workflow, equipment, and teams to enhance and ensure sustainable performance. Requirements DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS Assist Leadership in analyzing plant processes and procedures using data-driven and lean approaches, identifying, recommending, and implementing changes, expansions and additions in all areas of the plant in coordination with the plant management team. Utilize practical experience and basic lean tools to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost in both high-mix/low-volume and low-mix/high-volume applications. Assist in training and leading plant team members in executing process improvement directives. Assist in developing a system to monitor and ensure implementation of continuous improvement initiatives. Continually monitor improvement activities and adjust as needed. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications. Be a visible leader, leading by example with work ethic and attitude. Must be ready to step in and perform tasks to better understand improvement opportunities. Must be self-motivated, able to work alone as well as on a team. Must be able to motivate and influence a team to a high standard of safety and productivity. Will require up to 75% travel. Understand the importance of “do what you say.” QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience in production or manufacturing environment. Background in lumber remanufacturing, wood working and or similar field preferred but not required. Working knowledge of Lean tools including 5S and experience in leading change required. Analytical thinker with a strong basis on data gathering and analysis. Energetic, organized and able to manage a wide range of projects and priorities. Excellent communicator and understanding of importance to ‘do what you say’. Familiarity of ERP systems and methods of scheduling, inventory, and shipping. Strong computer skills with advanced experience in the Microsoft Office suite. WORK ENVIRONMENT & ATTRIBUTES Lumber remanufacturing facility with cutting and assembly equipment. Indoor office area with outdoor production and lumber yard management. Hearing protection, eyewear and steel-toed shoes required.
