Ash & Harris Executive Search is looking for a Diesel Mechanic Overview: A skilled and independent Fleet Mechanic is needed to maintain the Town's critical public works vehicles and equipment. This role is central to ensuring the operational readiness and safety of a diverse fleet, from diesel trucks to power tools, and involves maintaining the Town garage facility. The mechanic operates with significant autonomy under the general supervision of the Superintendent and Highway Division Foreman, making key decisions on maintenance and repairs. This position is also essential for emergency and winter operations, including snow plowing. Key Responsibilities: Perform skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance on a diverse fleet of gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment, including engine overhauls, brake and suspension systems, electrical systems, and clutch replacements. Operate, document, and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program, ensuring detailed records are kept for all work performed. Diagnose issues and repair various power equipment and tools, including compressors, jackhammers, and mowers. Order, manage, and maintain an organized inventory of parts and supplies. Prepare and maintain accurate repair records and assist in developing specifications for new vehicles and equipment. Operate vehicles for snow removal, plowing, and sanding during winter storms and participate in other emergency highway operations as required. Adhere to and promote all safety practices and protocols within the garage and vehicle servicing areas. Maintain a daily activity log and accurately update the DPW Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Requirements: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certification or training in diesel and automotive repair is highly preferred. Experiences: Proven, hands-on experience as a mechanic, with demonstrated expertise in repairing and maintaining both gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems. Experience with preventive maintenance software systems is a plus. Other: Must possess a valid driver's license. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one is highly desirable. Must be available for emergency call-ins and overtime, especially during winter weather events. Compensation and Benefits: Salary: Competitive salary with opportunities for overtime.
