********* FOR SALE: *A 2003 YAMAHA MODEL C1, CONSERVATORY SERIES BABY GRAND PIANO. 5' 3" LONG. Beautiful polished ebony case, like new condition, cosmetically and mechanically. Made in Japan. All new bass strings and tuning pins. The touch is moderate, and highly consistent. It has a warmer and richer tone than less expensive Yamaha models. *MODEL C1: This was Yamaha's top-of the-line baby grand from the 1960's through 2012, and was superior in tone, materials, and construction quality to the standard-grade Japanese models such as the G1, GH1, GH1B, and GC1. It is far superior to the smaller 5' long "petite" baby grands, such as the current model GB1K. The entry-level petite models have been made in Indonesia, Mexico, and China. As you might expect, Yamaha's Japanese factories have always maintained their best quality standards. At the time it was discontinued in 2012, the C1 listed for $31,000. It was replaced by Model C1X, which now lists for about $38,000. *RECENT SERVICE: Recently tuned and cleaned, inside and out. Most importantly, it has just been fully regulated. Regulation should be done once every few years, at least, to compensate for normal wear and tear, humidity changes, and the passage of time. Regulation consists of the many adjustments and tweaks needed to keep the playing action smooth and even, and to keep the tone at its best: not too bright, not too muted, and consistent from key to key. Unfortunately, most piano owners eventually let their instrument get out of regulation, due to lack of use, and/or to avoid the extra expense involved in maintaining peak performance. Just like a car, your piano periodically needs more than just a tune-up. *RECENT RESTORATION: All new bass strings and bass tuning pins were installed in 2025, to insure optimal tone and long-term tuning stability. The hammers, string dampers, and other action parts are original, yet have minimal wear. Nothing else should need replacement or restoration for many years to come.
