DRIVER JOB ANNOUNCEMENT (PART-TIME) ABOUT US: Partnership for Children (PFC) is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to increase access to medical care for children living with serious illnesses and to support their families. PFC serves children and families throughout Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties. POSITION SUMMARY: The Part-Time Driver plays a vital role in PFC’s mission by providing safe, compassionate, and reliable transportation to medical care for children living with serious illness and their family members. Transportation is provided from homes throughout our service area to hospitals and clinics, most commonly in the Bay Area and occasionally within the tri-county region. This role requires dependability, flexibility, and a supportive, professional demeanor. Some early morning, evening, or weekend rides may be required. The position requires availability for a minimum of two days per week, with a variable schedule based on ride demand. Hours will not exceed 29 hours per week. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Include, but are not limited to: Primary Responsibilities: • Provide safe and reliable non-emergency medical transportation for children living with serious illness and their family members in a PFC vehicle. • Ensure timely arrival and departure for all scheduled rides. • Provide courteous, compassionate, and culturally responsive service. • Wait near hospitals and clinics during medical appointments (typically 1-5 hours). • Use dispatching software and a smartphone or tablet to receive and track ride assignments. • Maintain accurate mileage and trip logs, as required. • Follow all organizational transportation protocols and applicable state driving laws. Ride Process Example: Pick up a PFC vehicle at our Salinas office → Drive to family home → Transport family to medical appointment → Wait during appointment (may range from 1–5 hours) → Return family home → Return vehicle to PFC’s Salinas office. Ride durations vary from 2 to 12 hours. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • High school diploma or GED. • At least 21 years of age . • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. • Valid California Driver’s License with at least 5 years of licensed driving experience. • Clean driving record: o No more than one moving violation in the past 12 months. o Fewer than 4 points on current record. o No DUI convictions unless expunged. • Must be insurable under the PFC’s commercial auto policy. • Enrollment in California’s DMV Employer Pull Notice (EPN) Program (PFC will enroll). • Ability to pass a background check. • Access to internet and comfort using basic apps or mobile tools. • CPR/First Aid Adult-Pediatric Certification preferred. • 2-3 professional references (non-relatives) required. Complete the state WIC Certifier training: -Conduct client assessment interview for service eligibility. -Determine client nutritional risk and needs. -Provide nutritional and breastfeeding counseling individually and classroom setting. -Develop individual plan for WIC services and basic information required: -Refer client for health care and social services, as appropriate. -Prescribe WIC foods and educate on food purchasing. 3. Maintain client record in WIC database system. 4. Coordinate communications with program staff, outside medical providers, DSHS, state WIC and various service organizations. 5. Identify, research, design, and produce educational materials and referral information. 6. May assist with WIC activities at satellite locations, community outreach, and local events. 7. May coordinate and present regularly scheduled cooking classes for client education. 8. May mentor other staff, volunteers, interns and nursing students. 9. Participate in agency meetings and trainings, WIC meetings/training, as required. 10. Other related duties as assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: Education & Experience -High School Diploma or GED/HSE minimum requirement required; Associate Degree in related field preferred. -Two-years of experience in WIC or other maternal/infant related field, with training in nutrition preferred, but not required. -Previous experience working with the public, interviewing, counseling and teaching preferred, but not required. -Or a combination of education and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work- License(s) & Certification(s) -Must have a valid driver license and auto liability insurance, if personal vehicle is used for work-related travel. -Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certificate (training provided). -WIC State Competent Professional Authority Recognition (training provided). -May require Food Handler Permit. Skills & Abilities -Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred; additional languages helpful. -Proficient in operations for manual and auto scales, height/length boards, hematocrit/hemoglobin analyzers, and blood draw techniques. -Knowledge of basic cooking techniques required. -If not previously trained, must become proficient in motivational interviewing and client centered interaction techniques. -Interest in teaching nutrition, maternal/infant health and breastfeeding. -Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel and Outlook; WIC database system. -Must have strong and effective communication skills (oral and written). -Working knowledge of standard office procedures and technologies (phone, computer, printer, photocopier, scanner, fax machine) is needed. -Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with people from varied cultural, socioeconomic, educational and experiential backgrounds.
