O'Brien Law, PC is a small, fast-paced litigation firm with a diverse practice. Our practice areas include, but are not limited to construction defect, insurance defense, employment law, personal injury, probate litigation, and general business litigation. We are currently seeking a legal secretary or paralegal to assist in our growing caseload. We are located on the Marina in Petaluma, California, 35 miles North of the Golden Gate Bridge.
We are looking for employees great work ethic, critical thinking skills, a positive attitude, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate has worked at a law firm for at least three years that practices civil litigation and is used to doing tasks including but not limited to: calendaring appointments, coordinating with processes server, scheduling meetings, contacting clients, consultants, experts, etc. for documents or to follow up, booking court reporters, taking notes in meetings, and drafting shells for motions and discovery.
Knowledge of probate, construction defect, insurance defense, employment, and/or personal injury litigation is helpful, but not required. Candidates with backgrounds adjacent to civil litigation, such as administrative law, education law, family law, workers’ compensation, and other similar areas of practice are also encouraged to apply.
Ideally, applicants will be working in the office. However, the option to work a couple of days a week remotely may be offered once candidates have been established at the firm. You will be expected to assist a small team of attorneys in a fast-paced litigation environment. The environment has a comfortable dress code, as jeans are allowed daily. Job Description: Legal secretary/paralegal needed for full-time position working in Petaluma office. The candidate must have 3+ years of experience in civil litigation or similar practice.
Job Requirements:
Have at least 3+ years of legal experience in civil litigation (or an adjacent field where the Code of Civil Procedure is used);
Have experience in assisting attorneys in preparing legal documents;
Have experience in drafting, revising and proofreading legal documents;
Must be able to maintain attorney(s) appointments/calendar;
Must be able to calendar all court deadlines/due dates for several cases;
Must be able to complete court filings and subpoena documents.
Computer skills: Proficient in legal software (we will be using Smokeball), Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Excel, and Outlook.
Office Hours: 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
