They are most commonly found on the bottom of the foot and result from a combination of factors such as poor blood circulation, nerve damage (diabetic neuropathy), and high blood sugar levels. Because diabetes can cause a loss of feeling in the feet, small cuts or blisters may go unnoticed and develop into ulcers. Poor circulation also slows healing, increasing the risk of infection. If not properly treated, diabetic foot ulcers can lead to serious complications, including infections, tissue damage, and in severe cases, amputation. Preventing diabetic foot ulcers involves daily foot care, wearing proper footwear, managing blood sugar levels, and seeking prompt medical attention for any foot injuries.
