Objective NetX’s Systems Engineer looks at what's going on in our systems, and figures out how to fix it, which sometimes means designing new solutions from scratch. Responsibilities ● Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure. ● Install, configure, test and maintain systems, application software and system management tools. ● Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability. ● Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes. ● Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies. ● Write and maintain custom (e.g. Ansible) scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks. ● Participate in the design of information and operational support systems. ● Liaise with vendors for problem resolution. ● When addressing an issue, prioritize seeking a solution that resolves the problem in a more sustainable, long-term manner. ● Strive for automation. Requirements ● BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject. ● Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX /Linux based environments. ● Solid experience in the administration and performance tuning of application stacks (e.g.,Tomcat, Apache, NGINX). ● Solid Cloud experience, preferably in AWS. ● Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, VMware, Virtual Box). ● Experience with monitoring and observability systems (e.g., Nagios/Icigna, Prometheus, Grafana). ● Experience with automation software (e.g., Ansible). ● Solid scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts, Python). ● Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP). Classification Summary: Under general supervision performs non-routine, complex work. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Oversees all aspects of cybersecurity operations, including threat detection, incident response, and risk mitigation for the SEN. This includes managing a team of analysts and implementing tools and procedures to monitor, assess, and defend the network from cyber threats. The SOC Supervisor ensures the security and integrity of broadband services, protecting sensitive data while supporting the educational mission of K-12 schools across New Mexico. Collaborates closely with the SEN NOC Supervisor to coordinate efforts between network operations and security. This includes joint development of processes, communication protocols, and strategies to maintain seamless service delivery while upholding cybersecurity standards. The role also involves frequent coordination with the PSL ISOC Department Manager to align with broader institutional security policies and frameworks, ensuring compliance with FERPA and other applicable regulations. Responsible for the development and enforcement of cybersecurity policies and procedures, conducting regular risk assessments, and delivering actionable insights to enhance the network’s security posture. The role requires proactive identification of vulnerabilities, mitigation of potential threats, and continuous improvement of the SOC’s capabilities. In addition to technical and operational duties, the Supervisor plays a key role in fostering collaboration and trust among stakeholders, including educational institutions, state agencies, and PSL leadership.
