Operations Aide - Part-Time (Non-Exempt)
16-32 hours/week depending on workload
Position Overview
The Operations Aide supports the Field Operations Manager in daily park operations, with a focus on
visitor services and maintenance at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve (SNR), Austin Creek
State Recreation Area (SRA), and occasionally Sonoma Coast State Park. This position helps ensure
visitors have a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable park experience while assisting with campground
operations, trail and facility maintenance, and visitor services.
Reports to: Field Operations Manager
Location: Armstrong Redwoods SNR, Austin Creek SRA, and Sonoma Coast State Park
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
Provide excellent customer service and ensure park visitors have a safe and positive experience.
Staff the Armstrong Redwoods entrance kiosk, collect day-use fees, reconcile monies, and answer
visitor questions.
Register campers (when the campground is open).
• Respond to visitor inquiries by phone and in person.
Maintenance and Repairs
• Assist with campground and facility maintenance, cleaning, firewood processing, and road/trail
clearing.
• Support general outdoor park operations as needed.
Qualifications
Commitment to Stewards' mission and strong customer service skills.
Knowledge of California's natural and cultural history is preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience with hand and power tools preferred (training provided if needed).
Ability to safely drive vehicles on narrow one-lane roads; must be able to back up a truck.
Clean driving record with no major violations for at least five (5) years.
Cash handling experience required (background check required)
Must wear an approved uniform and adhere to park grooming standards.
Excellent time and project management skills.
Working Conditions
Frequently moves about parks to perform duties and collaborate with colleagues.
Regularly walks and hikes on uneven terrain.
Works outdoors in hot, cold, and varied weather conditions.
Frequently lifts and moves objects up to 30 pounds.
Must be available to work weekends.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Rate: $20-$22 DOE
Employee PTO, 403(b) plan and medical stipend
Schedule: 16-32 hours/week (part-time or full-time depending on workload)
