In this leadership role, you’ll own the financial oversight and strategy for a portfolio of nonprofit clients. You will guide accounting teams, provide high-level financial insights, and ensure accurate, timely reporting that supports mission-aligned decision-making. As the linchpin between our internal staff and client leadership, you’ll be key in building long-term financial health and accountability. What You’ll Do Serve as the lead finance advisor for a portfolio of nonprofit clients, managing the full scope of financial oversight, planning, and compliance. Lead monthly financial review meetings with clients to present results, highlight trends, and support data-driven decisions. Supervise and review work completed by Associates and Senior Associates, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Oversee the month-end and year-end close process including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial package preparation. Prepare and review financial statements, cash flow forecasts, and budget-to-actual analyses. Support clients in annual budget development, mid-year forecasting, and grant/contract reporting. Advise clients on internal controls, accounting policies, and financial best practices tailored to nonprofit operations. Ensure clients remain compliant with IRS, state, and local requirements, including 990 support and audit readiness. Assist with the preparation and review of financial documentation for audits, tax filings, and board presentations. Contribute to the development of internal SOPs and coach team members on improving process efficiency and client service delivery. Collaborate with leadership on client expansion, new service offerings, and staff development. What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred). 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including controllership or finance leadership within the nonprofit sector. Deep understanding of U.S. nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, and financial reporting for grants/restricted funding. Proficiency with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, and Excel; experience with integrations and system optimization is a plus. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clients or projects with professionalism, accuracy, and grace under pressure. Strong communication skills with a proven ability to present complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. A collaborative leadership style and a passion for mentoring others. High attention to detail, strategic thinking, and a client-service mindset.
