The Salty Otter Sports Grill is a fun and lively sports grill in downtown Santa Cruz. We are a new American-fare food full-service restaurant that offers 30 drafts on tap. We are dedicated to creating a family dining experience that speaks to the local community and creates regulars through exceptional food, drinks, and most importantly, service. We are currently looking to fill the following positions: - Weekend Morning Line Cook (this could turn into more hours) The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and cooking, with experience in meal preparation and food handling. As a Line Cook, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our kitchen operates efficiently and that our guests receive high-quality meals prepared with care. Duties: - Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes and standards. - Ensure all food is prepared in a timely manner to meet service demands. - Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes. - Portion, arrange, and garnish food, according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications. - Follow proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes. - Assists in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed. - Utilize proper knife skills for food preparation while maintaining a focus on safety. - Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen workspace, including proper food storage and labeling. - Adhere to food safety guidelines and regulations to ensure the health and safety of our guests. - Date all food items and ensure to write any food wastage in a log book - Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock. - Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of kitchen equipment. - Stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food products at line stations to support a smooth service period. - Assist in inventory management by monitoring stock levels of ingredients and supplies. - Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during service hours. - Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the restaurant. - Closes the kitchen following the closing checklist for kitchen stations and assists others in closing the kitchen. Experience: - At least 2yrs previous experience as a Line Cook in a full-service restaurant is required. - Strong knowledge of meal preparation techniques, food handling, and food safety practices - everything is labeled in our kitchen! - Familiarity with restaurant operations and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. - Culinary training or certification is a plus but not required. ServSafe required. - A positive attitude, teamwork mentality, and willingness to learn are essential for success in this role.
