Gold Palm is a new(ish) cocktail bar and kitchen from the people that opened Bar Shiru. We serve Pakistani-inspired small plates (aka "Pakistani Party Food") in an stylish but casual setting just steps from The Fox Theater in the heart of Uptown Oakland. We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented, drama-free kitchen professional to join our team. Our food is not complicated and this is not a fine-dining operation, but we run a tight ship and expect punctuality, cleanliness and professionalism at all times. Expected responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to): -- Menu Execution: Perform daily prep and cooking along with recipe development, special menus, and seasonal updates when needed/requested by leadership. -- Cooking: Be able to execute every dish on our menu across all stations with precision, care and speed -- Inventory & Ordering: Monitor inventory levels, assist in ordering and receiving supplies, and minimize waste through effective stock rotation and storage practices (FIFO). -- Quality Control: Maintain the highest standards of food quality, taste, and presentation; conduct regular checks on portioning, seasoning, and plating. -- Ensure Food Safety: maintain the highest level of cleanliness and organization in all kitchen areas according to local health codes. -- Assist in Kitchen Management: Support the senior kitchen team in daily kitchen operations. -- Supervise Staff: Lead, train, and mentor line cooks, prep cooks, and junior kitchen staff during service; delegate tasks effectively to maintain workflow and kitchen standards. -- Expo: work the expo station when needed to ensure clear communication as tickets come in and timely delivery of dishes to FOH. -- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the entire team to make sure the kitchen is running smoothly, efficiently and without drama in order to ensure customer satisfaction. -- Shift Leadership: Act as the manager on duty when needed, or in the absence of senior team, handling any issues that arise with professionalism and efficiency Key Requirements: -- Mutiple years of experience in a fast-paced commercial kitchen as a line cook, kitchen manager and/or sous chef -- Punctuality - we do not tolerate people consistently showing up late -- Bi-lingual - you can understand and speak in both English and Spanish -- Kindness and empathy - we strive to run a fast and efficient kitchen with no screaming, no drama and no bullshit -- Team player - treat others with respect, no matter their role -- Takes Direction - feedback and constructive criticism taken in stride with an eye on improvement -- Proactive self-starter - you don't need to be micromanaged to meet expectations set by senior team -- Be nice -- Work hard We are looking for someone who wants to be here long term. This role will start at $25/hr plus tips (we pool all tips and send a percentage to BOH) with the potential for a pay increase and benefits down the line for the right candidate.
