The Opportunity: We’re recruiting a Senior Community Connections Associate! This role will provide critical support to the Vice President of Community Connections, employee resource groups, and community advisory boards as OPB and KMHD grow our community connections strategy. We’re looking for a highly organized project manager who is passionate about engaging historically underrepresented communities and contributing to a culture of belonging at OPB and KMHD. Position Summary: Reporting to OPB’s Vice President of Community Connections, the Senior Community Connections Associate is a highly organized individual who is passionate about supporting community-centered public service journalism. This role supports the Vice President of Community Connections’ vision and strategy to authentically reflect the communities we serve in our staff, audience, and storytelling. The qualified candidate is a skilled project manager and community builder. They should have a deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by the diverse communities across Oregon and southwest Washington, particularly populations that are often underserved by the media. The Senior Community Connections Associate is responsible for managing all activities connected to OPB and KMHD’s affinity groups, Employee Resource Groups, and community advisory councils. They will work with OPB leaders and key internal stakeholders to implement professional development and mentorship opportunities and collect and organize tools and resources that strengthen OPB and KMHD’s community representation and community connections. This role will also collaborate with the Programming and Audience Engagement team to coordinate the planning and logistics of community listening sessions and regional visits to rural areas. Working Conditions: Work Environment: This position will be based out of OPB’s Portland or Vancouver offices but with flexible options when needed. This is a hybrid position, and we’ll ask the person in this role to be present in the office 2-3 days a week. This position will have the opportunity to travel across OPB & KMHD’s service region. Much of the work requires the use of a telephone and computer. Schedule: This position works 40 hours/week, most often during OPB’s business hours (approximately 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday), with occasional evening work. Minimum Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attitudes): 4 years of professional experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position Excellent project management and logistical coordination skills Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective relationships across cultures and hierarchy Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate needs and proactively address issues Must be able to handle Community Connections Office communication, materials and information with 100% confidentiality and resilience Demonstrated understanding and application of inclusive leadership skills Experience forming and overseeing employee resource groups and community advisory councils Experience in leading and effectively delivering large-scale trainings and projects with multiple stakeholders Demonstrated reliability, discretion, good judgment and ethical behavior Enthusiasm for the mission of OPB and KMHD Preferred Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attitudes): Bi-lingual in Spanish is preferred, proficiency in another language would also be a plus Background in engaging rural communities gained through lived experience or professional experience Demonstrated understanding of the work of creatives, journalists and the demands of a newsroom Experience leading racial equity, unconscious bias training, or other cultural sensitivity trainings Additional Information: This position reports to the VP of Community Connections, is unrepresented and is eligible for benefits. The probable hiring range for this exempt position is between $60000 - $73000 depending on qualifications.
