ABOUT US Halo Braid is a cutting-edge hair technology company that uses breakthrough AI-powered engineering to help people perform beauty routines faster. ABOUT THE ROLE We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Co-op for the Spring 2026 term to play a pivotal role in delivering our innovative hair braiding robot to market as we progress through the New Product Development (NPD) stage. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of hair styling technology, launch a new product suite, and have a significant impact on our fast-growing mission-driven startup. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with a dynamic founding team and collaborate across Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Hardware. Requirements YOU HAVE At least one semester remaining in your undergraduate or graduate degree Experience with CAD (Solidworks or OnShape preferred) Experience with various rapid prototyping methods (3D printing, CNC, etc) Demonstrated design intelligence, mechanical intuition, creative problem solving, and strong attention to detail Strong documentation skills and the ability to convey complex ideas in a team setting A willingness to fail and learn! BONUS IF YOU HAVE Experience with consumer electronics, robotics, or hair styling tools Interest in beauty/hair industry Experience with design optimization using FEA/CFD simulation Gone through (and documented!) the design process for a project, through school or on your own time YOU WILL Contribute to the development of complex technology and product sub-assemblies Utilize various rapid prototyping technologies to build, test, and iterate Use hand calculations, computer simulation, and lab-based testing to validate designs Conduct user testing and project the voice of the customer back into the design process Take an active role in defining design specifications for a given concept or subsystem Liaise and collaborate with suppliers Challenge and help refine Halo Braid’s engineering practices to continuously improve design quality Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly This role 40/hrs per week onsite and is based in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of hair technology, contribute to a new product, and have a significant impact on our fast-growing startup.
