Computer Maintenance Management Software Intern - Historic Seattle (Seattle)
1373 Hubbell Pl, Seattle, WA 98101, USA
Historic Seattle’s Mission Historic Seattle Preservation Development Authority (HSPDA) saves meaningful places to foster lively communities. Formed by the City of Seattle in 1973, HSPDA focuses on a balanced historic preservation agenda of education, advocacy, and preservation. We currently own, operate, and steward 10 historic properties located throughout Seattle. Position Summary: Historic Seattle invites applications for the position of Computer Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) Intern. Our CMMS Intern will be responsible for helping our real estate staff more efficiently and effectively manage our real estate portfolio through the development of our existing maintenance system. The CMMS Intern will have the opportunity, with the assistance of Historic Seattle staff, to build our database and to thoughtfully organize all assets associated with our historic properties. This internship will provide the opportunity to gain valuable experience compiling information on the various physical elements, systems, and equipment comprising our facilities. Specific duties include collecting asset information from on-site and from contractors, vendors, and other sources, and entering that information into the system. Once these assets have been entered into our software by our CMMS Intern, work orders will be generated, tracked, and more efficiently completed. In addition, critical needs assessments can be generated, and more accurate capital planning can occur. This software will serve as the interface between Historic Seattle and all our tenants at our 10 properties. The utilization of this system will play a vital role in helping to ensure that Historic Seattle continues to maintain and improve our valuable portfolio of historic buildings. Our CMMS Intern will be an individual who is self-directed and willing to help build the foundation upon which Historic Seattle can continue to thoughtfully steward our important, community-focused properties. Portfolio Background: Our CMMS Intern will have the opportunity to work on all of our historic properties including, but not limited to, the following: Washington Hall Built in 1908 by the Danish Brotherhood, Washington Hall has been an anchor in Seattle’s Central District for over 100 years. The building has served as a hub for social and cultural activities for a broad ethnic community. In 1973, the Sons of Haiti, an African-American Masonic Lodge, purchased the building and continued the tradition of hosting performing arts, making it the first home of On the Boards. Historic Seattle acquired Washington Hall in 2009, saving it from demolition. The renovation of Washington Hall was a Historic Seattle community development project that engaged the collaboration of the building’s current grassroots Anchor Organizations: Black Power Unlimited (formerly Hidmo Cypher), 206 Zulu, and Voices Rising. Together, they revitalized an accessible gathering space to be enjoyed by all. Good Shepherd Center After providing over 60 years of service to young women seeking shelter, education, and training, declining numbers of residents forced the Home of the Good Shepherd to close in 1973. After the Wallingford community defeated a proposal to turn the 11-acre site into a shopping center, the City of Seattle bought the property in 1975 with Forward Thrust and Federal Revenue Sharing funds and then transferred the buildings to Historic Seattle for use as a multi-purpose community center. The property is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and was designated a Seattle Landmark in 1984. Good Arts Building Historically known as the Scheuerman Block, the Good Arts Building was designed by Elmer Fisher in 1889 for Christian Scheuerman and completed in 1890. Throughout the years, the building has been a hub of entrepreneurial, creative, and colorful endeavors. The name “Good Arts” pays homage to “Good Eats,” a two-story diner once housed in its walls. The building has also been home to department stores, a cigar shop, jazz club, boxing gym, brothels, speakeasies, and the original office of Washington Mutual Savings Bank. In 2015, Good Arts LLC purchased the building with the mission of preserving its artistic heritage and affordability to creative enterprises. On June 10, 2022, Historic Seattle finalized a deal to become managing partners in the property, ensuring the long-term preservation of the building and its continued mission as a hub for arts, culture, and creative enterprises in perpetuity. Compensation: $21.00 per hour. Position Status: This is a part-time, temporary position reporting to Historic Seattle’s Director of Real Estate, David McClain. Work schedule and weekly hourly commitment from intern is negotiable. Historic Seattle will take into consideration the internship schedule required by the academic program. Ideal timeframe is September - June. Historic Seattle requires that the weekly hourly commitment be at least in four-hour increments. Minimum Qualifications and Performance Standards: • Ability to effectively self-direct and manage scheduled activities and seamlessly adjust and prioritize workflow when unexpected activities and emergencies occur. • Must be able to work effectively and efficiently at multiple concurrent tasks. • Must be present on-site on a reliable schedule and to perform duties and tasks in a timely and autonomous fashion. Desired Qualifications and Experience: • Enrolled in construction management program. • At least one year of related construction management or trades work experience preferred. • Experience with data entry. • Time management skills and experience independently managing projects of varied size and scope. • Ability to multi-task, prioritize competing activities, and meet required deadlines. • Experience working within a team environment, pro-actively solving problems in imaginative as well as practical ways, and effectively communicating with other team members, constituents, contractors and vendors. • Experience interfacing respectfully with people from diverse populations. • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written form. • Proficiency with personal computers and common software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
