Welder
The Welder is responsible for using appropriate welding methods to attach pieces of materials to build or fabricate finished products and/or parts as well as setting up and adjusting specific welding equipment for the type of welding to be performed. The Welder should be able to read and/or listen to instructions, examine prints or plans, and measure and lay out materials. The welder will perform welds that are appropriate and acceptable in penetration and appearance for the products fabricated.
Essential Responsibilities
Will be required to visually inspect tools and equipment for safety and proper operation at the beginning of each shift. Notifies supervisor or maintenance of needed repairs or replacements
Ability to learn how to properly install bearings, bushings, and sheaves using manufacturer specifications
Ability to learn how to safely operate hydraulic cylinders and lifts
Sets temperatures and gas gauges on welding equipment
Ability to read instructions or plans, measures, holds, and positions materials
Ability to lift, move, stack, position, align, and fit together metal parts according to instructions or plans
Ability to properly place parts and materials in a jig
Ability to safely and properly operate an overhead crane to position heavy materials
Ability to safely and efficiently weld seams of parts together using proper techniques for the job assigned
Ability to safely operate grinders or other proper tools to remove rough edges, surplus metals, surplus weld, or scale
Maintain and use all required personal protective equipment as outlined in the Diamond Z Safety Manual
Understand and follow all Diamond Z safety policies and procedures
Perform other tasks as assigned or needed
Additional Responsibilities
Cleans and organizes work area
Appropriately disposes of scrap material and waste
Assists with special projects as assigned by supervisor
Working Conditions
Temperature and humidity variances consistent with normal outdoor ranges. Climate control in the facilities is limited. May occasionally require working outdoors
Air contaminates such as smoke and dust may be present but are below the recognized TLV
The presence of electrical and compressed air sources
The presence of bottled gas and oxygen
The presence of chemicals
The presence of moving equipment, lift trucks, or other vehicles
May be subject to cramped working conditions in some cases
Exposure to flying particles, hot or molten metal
Exposure to light radiation from welding or plasma cutting
Exposure to sharp edges and points on steel and abrasive tools
Exposure to falling or rolling steel
Requirements
Ability to reach over and around objects to lift, move, or place objects or materials in designated locations
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance
Ability to see to perform welding functions, read drawings and instructions, and place materials where needed
Ability to safely work on raised platforms, climb stairs or ladders, and climb off equipment or ladders.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull, and reach both above and below shoulder height
Ability to handle, place, manipulate, operate, stack, and connect equipment and materials through fine and basic hand skills
Ability to use hands and fingers repetitively to grasp and hold up to 10 pounds for up to 20 minutes
Ability to verbally communicate with coworkers and supervisors in a safe and productive manner
Ability to work extended shifts to meet business demands as needed
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
