Don't even waste your time trying to convince the maggot crowd on causes and effects. They're too stupid to even attempt to comprehend what you are saying. If reason explained has more than 4 letters per word and isn't accompanied by crayon drawings then it's beyond their feeble minded brain to understand. A perfect example is look at who their party, (GOP) elected president. And we all know what the GOP really stands for, right? In perhaps Stephen Sondheim's greatest work, the Broadway musical West Side Story, is a small, humorous, song to break the tension of the story being told. It is titled "Gee, Officer Krupke." The lyrics detail the various failed ways social ills are addressed. It is comforting to assess blame for a horrific act. It distances the individual, creates meaning to meaningless violence, and suggests if you can just find the cause, it will never happen to you. It is a normal human trait, despite it being counterproductive. Even a five year old knows the pain of being accused of something you have no responsibility for. Instead of blaming millions of people you have never met, know nothing about, a more effective way of dealing with the criminally mental ill might be to volunteer for an inner city understaffed mental health clinic or homeless shelter, lobby your state representative for more mental health funding, praying for mentally ill folk, or become an advocate. Mental illness and violence know no political, racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, age or sex bounds.
